Atopica (Cyclosporine) Capsules are prescribed by veterinarians to manage allergic skin conditions and inflammation in dogs. This steroid-free medication targets the immune system to alleviate symptoms such as itching, hair loss, and inflammation, offering relief for dogs with chronic atopic dermatitis. With its easy-to-administer formula, Atopica helps improve your pet's condition. Use Atopica for dogs ages 6 months or older and weighing 4 lb. or more.How it Works
Cyclosporine, which is Atopica's active ingredient, is an immune modulating agent. It is a cyclic polypeptide which consists of 11 different amino acids. It is produced by the Beauveria nivea species of fungi as a metabolite.
Special Precautions
Atopica is a strong systemic immunosuppressant. It could increase infection susceptibility and neoplasia development.
If your pet experiences any of the following side effects, immediately contact your veterinarian. These could be early symptoms of dangerous reactions.
- Fever (above 103°)
- Runny nose
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Tiredness
- Painful urination
Contact your closest emergency pet hospital.
Side Effects
The most commonly reported side effects, in rare cases, were diarrhea and vomiting.
Papillomas and gingival hyperplasia could also occur in the initial phase of dosing.
Storage
Store and dispense in the original unit-dose container at room temperature between 59° and 77°F (15-25°C).
Tips
For dogs treated with Atopica, killed vaccines are recommended. The effect of cyclosporine on live vaccine immune response is not known.
