To control your pet's seizures, veterinarians may recommend a Zonisamide Capsule. Zonisamide is an anti-seizure medication that may be used alone or in conjunction with other medications to help ensure seizures are being adequately controlled. Zonisamide is less likely to result in adverse reactions than other drugs, making it an excellent option for many pets. Designed for convenient once daily administration. How it Works
While the exact mode of action is not clear, Zonisamide is thought to block sodium channels within the brain that decrease nerve cell activity, preventing them from firing abnormally. It could also have an effect on brain calcium levels.
Special Precautions
- Do not use in pregnant animals. Zonisamide can cause birth defects.
- Speak with your veterinarian if your pet has kidney or liver disease. Risks and benefits should be carefully weighed before administering Zonisamide.
- Never administer Zonisamide to pets with sulfonamide allergies or allergies to similar drugs.
Immediately contact your closest emergency animal hospital or vet.
