Sex: Unsexed

Rouens are probably the second most popular breed in North America. They are very beautiful and closely resemble Wild Mallards in coloration. The original breed was developed in the Normandy area of France and was given the name Rouen after the city of Rouen. They are second to only Pekins and Muscovy in size and are said to have very flavorful meat. The Rouen is very calm, has a gentle disposition and makes a good pet. They do tend to be broody, are hardy in most climates has a fairly lean carcass. Some people call Rouens, Mallards but that is incorrect as Mallards fly quite easily and Rouens do not. A Rouen is at least three times the weight of a Mallard.

I have two 6 month old female Rouen's. We have built and covered a large pen for them with their house inside. They are both very attached to me. Will they get depressed in the winter months and how cold is too cold for them?

Asked by: Linda422
Rouens have a strong character and generally are not impacted by cold weather. They will not get broody or depressed. You should maintain an area at 70-75 degrees if the are juvenile or adult

is it ok that I have my ducklings in my garage with a heat lamp even though its 40ish degrees in the garage itself?

It is fine to brood ducks, chicks or any other fowl in your garage as long as they are contained and have heat at floor level of 95 degrees as babies. There should also be no draft
