Take a bite out of winter with Chapin's 3-Liter hand crank ice melt spreader. It features a rugged poly scoop with a toothed edge for cutting through ice melt/halite making scooping easy. The thumb-controlled gate adjustment and trigger gate control are designed to handle the ice-melt smoothly, enclosed gears keep debris out. The impeller is designed to provide an even spread pattern. Great for steps, sidewalks and areas a larger spreader can't go. Not recommended with rock salt, sand or sand mixes, lime, pelletized lime or lime mixes.

3-Liter (0.8-gallon) hopper: large poly hopper with tooth-edge; you can easily scoop ice melt/halite to fill the hopper instead of pouring in product, quick with less mess or waste
Thumb-controlled gate adjustment: adjust the gate opening with one hand while still cranking the handle and spreading with the other; you dont need to stop and adjust the gate, you can just keep on walking and the impeller is designed to deliver an even spread pattern
Large handle: easy to grip and fill with one hand; accommodates small and large-sized hands and the easy-crank handle is large enough to grip if youve got gloves on
Poly construction: its lightweight and easy to clean; less metal means less wear and tear and corrosion, poly is protected from ice melt/halite and other harsh winter particles
Portable: keep it on top of your ice melt bucket or on a shelf, store it in a cabinet when not in use or keep it in your trunk; it doesnt take up much space and you can pull it out when you need it
Ideal for small spaces and quick fixes: use on sidewalks, walkways, stairs, around vehicles and smaller areas where larger spreaders cant go
Note: not recommended for use with rock salt, sand or sand mixes, lime, pelletized lime or lime mixes

This idea is nice but I had a brand new bag which I opened a week ago. The salt absorbed moisture from the air (I had the bag in the garage) and made it unusable in this device. It wouldn't feed into the hopper to get disbursed.

Nice for small walkways, but not for larger areas. The hand crank and spreader doesn't really spread enough for much use, I ended up just using it as a fancy salt bucket...
