How do I put a brace in my fence?

Be sure to follow any directions from manufacturers for whatever parts you're working with. Generally, you’ll start by driving your end posts to depths of anywhere from 3.5-5.5 inches, depending on fence height and the kind of soil you're working in. Make sure the spacing between any is at least 2.5 times your fence's height. Then, run a guide wire from one to the other. Drive all the line posts you want along the guide wire, between the brace posts. Next, fit the braces between the tops of the end posts and brace posts and install them with brace pins if called for. Install any brace wire and inline strainer you need to use.

What tools and equipment do I need to install a fence brace?

Use protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, work boots and hearing protection. If you need to cut wood for braces, you may need a chainsaw or hand saw. Digging holes for posts may require a shovel, post hole digger or hand auger. Use a wire cutter to snip fencing, a hammer to drive nails or staples and a wrench for any tightening.
