    Coffee Toffee Bars

    Consistent ribbon-winners each year at the Wicomico County Fair, these bars disappear almost as soon as Tom and Loretta can make them.


    • 2¼ cups sifted flour
    • ½ tsp. baking powder
    • ¼ tsp. salt
    • 1 cup butter
    • 1 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1 tsp. almond extract
    • 1-2 tablespoons instant coffee
    • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate morsels
    • ½ cup blanched almonds, chopped


    Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Cream together butter, brown sugar, almond extract, and instant coffee. Combine both mixtures and blend well. Stir in chocolate morsels and almonds. Press into well-greased 15x10x1 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Cut into bars.

    Makes approximately 14 bars.
