I purchased the toro 22 inch recycler with the new “personal pace”! Self propulsion system . This was a game changer . Previously had the cub cadet 20 inch mower with a kohler commercial engine . Good machine but the propelling system was not great . Lots of slippage and adjustments required . The “personal pace “ system on the Toro is very cool . The entire handle assembly slides forward as you begin to walk. The speed is in sync with the positioning of the handle . Essentially the unit responds to your pace . I was never a fan of Briggs and Stratton products , but I pitched this machine for the self propulsion and the “toro “ name. The only improvement on Briggs and Stratton that I can see is the availability of domestic parts . Check it out . I was surprised

Lacks ground speed when baging hrass

It does a good job in lighter grass. In anything even remotely heavy, it will clog and stall. I was replacing an old Honda in which the transmission went out. In thicker portions of my yard, I now have to manually push the old Honda vs. using a brand new mower. I'll be fixing the Honda back up over the winter and sending the Toro down the road next spring.

Terrible in thick grass. Will probably get my old craftsman fixed at sell this one at a loss.

A gift and the recipient seems to like this a lot.

Mulches like a champion. Personal pace drive is exceptional.

Decent for cutting thicker yards up to 1/2 acre on sloped yard

Feels lighter than my previous Toro Personal Pace, maybe thinner steel? Not sure, but it performs well and the lighter weight makes it easier to handle. Wheels look like they may outlast the previous mower but only time will tell as I used the previous mower for close to twenty years.

Great mower, easy operation. Starts on first pull as advertised.

Overall good for residential purposes

I bought this Toro mower from TsC last month and I hate it. It fails in almost every way in my expectations. But, I relied on user reviews when I made my choice and that is a lesson learned. I should have just purchased my third YardForce mower which the two previous ones served me well and cost far less. This Toro: 1. Will not mulch grass. You must use the bag which fills very quickly which takes a significant amount of my time to mow. 2. The self-propelled drive is very weak. My old cheap YardForce would literally pull me up a hill. Not this Toro. It takes quite a bit of effort to push it up and also effort to pull it backwards. Much more work for me. 3. The handle is too low and cannot be adjusted for height. I’m 6’ 2” which means I’m bent over when pushing this machine. Appears it’s made for short people. 4. To adjust the height of the deck, you must adjust each wheel manually which is not easy. Again, there was only one adjustment required to raise the YardForce deck. 5. Expensive for what you get in this mower. Toro is a big name brand. But this will be the first and last product that I buy. Since I won’t be able to return it since it’s been used and these are not warranty issues, I’ll try to sell it and go buy another one of the YardForce mowers. They’ve only been lasting me two to three years, but that’s fine. It’s worth the cost.

I've had this mower less than 3 months and only issues out of it. Going through the warranty process now with Toro. Do not recommend.

the personal pace is the only good thing about this mower. i hate this mower and i have had it for a year. it bogs down all the time i would be lucky to give it away.

TORO Lawnmower Review I usually only write reviews for exceptionally good products or exceptionally bad ones. This lawnmower falls in the latter category. I’ve been mowing lawns since I was 8 years old – almost 50 years – so I am not a newbie. In college I worked for a landscaper and we used all Toro equipment and it was exceptional. The products they make today are far from those glory days, built of cheap plastic and poor quality. I will outline the good and bad of this mower. The Good: Nothing. I can honestly say that there is not a single thing I like about this mower. Every time I use it (about once a week) I start cussing this pile of junk. The Bad: • The “Guaranteed Start” claim. This is not accurate. Because they have this claim, they don’t put a primer bulb on it. This sat in my shed for the winter (I don’t have a winter lawn). When spring came this thing WOULD NOT start. Fresh gas, clean the spark plug, pulled the rope at least 100 times (I am not kidding), etc. Couldn’t prime it because there isn’t a primer. No start. • The warranty. They say it’s a 3 year warranty, but when you try to actually use the warranty it’s a pain. Because it wouldn’t start, I filed a claim. Had to go to some local dealer and he said it’d be at least 6 weeks because getting Toro to pay these guys is like pulling teeth. In then end, he went through it and charged me $40. I didn’t complain because I needed to mow my lawn. He didn’t speak English so I have no idea what he had to do, but it now starts. Thanks for that great warranty and support, Toro! • The cost. This cost close to $500. I don’t mind paying good money for good products, but $500 for this is robbery. You’re better off buying the worst mower somewher else. • The wheels don’t raise up high enough. I have a thick St Augustine lawn and sometimes I need to raise the mower high. Many times the mower dies. It’s designed to shut off when you mow really thick grass – thanks again, Toro. Superb engineering and design here. Very well though out… • When making turns, sometimes the rear wheels just decide to collapse to the lowest setting and it looks like the mower has a flat. The adjustment levers on the wheels don’t lock down tight enough. • The flap on the back is made of cheap, flimsy plastic. And the great engineering crew at Toro thought a 1-inch screw on the sides would provide plenty of strength to keep the flimsy plastic on. The sides tore and those really strong 1-inch screws are somewhere in my lawn. Before this tore off, it was always getting stuck underneath the mower providing ZERO value. • The chute to feed grass into the bag needs to be bigger or moved, seems like it’s too low or something. It gets clogged all the time. I have to empty the bag way more than I should because of the clogging. • Did I mention all of the flimsy plastic on this thing? The handle feels so cheap, Playskool makes better quality stuff. • While mowing the lawn there is always grass shooting out all around the mower. It comes from the wheels, around the bag, and out the sides. Never had a mower do this. It looks Pigpen walking around with a cloud of dust around him. I know there are going to be some die hard Toro fans out there that will refute all this. That’s fine. But it only takes one bad experience to never buy a product again, and that’s where I am at. I will NEVER get another Toro anything. I bought this at Tractor Supply and tried to return it, but they wouldn’t take it back. Their return policy is not good. I posted this mower on Craigslist and Marketplace at a steep discount and didn’t get a single inquiry. That says a lot about how others feel about Toro products.

I pulled the cord once machine started right away. pushed it over my 8-in tall grass went through the grass like it wasn't even there it helped that the bag of collected the clipping so that the machine was not bogged down. I have to mow it another time for maintenance without the bagger to see if the machine can still work as well. my ground is fairly level so traction was not an issue in the ditches or in the high to low parts. the machine was easy is easy to maneuver as it would be if it were not self propelled

I've never owned a Toro mower before but always thought they were top-notch products. I bought this mower approximately 2 months ago. It's hit or miss with the mowing. Sometimes it will cut a strip of grass, other times it just flattens it down and it pops right back up.. I would never buy another Toro mower again.

Returned to Tractor Supply after 3 uses. My yard is too steep and the grass is too tough. This would be a good mower for someone with a level lawn and thinner grass. did not try the grass catcher or the side discharge. Tractor Supply is a good place to shop and their employees are nice.

Excellent mower, trusted brand. Ordered online and picked it up the same day. So convenient!

Works okay for short dry grass but has no side discharge and bogs down too often for my lawn.

The mower is, in itself a quality mower. My issue is that I bought and paid for a brand new mower for pickup. Sent my in-laws to grab it and instead of the NEW mower I paid for they were given a USED floor model. No paperwork, no 3 yr warranty card, etc. Full price for something 1000 kids have yanked on and been dragged in, out, and around the store is unacceptable. My concerns were ignored when asked how my visit went by TSC.

First time purchasing a Toro and they had a price that met or was better than others online. Glad to have them in town. The mower was better than expected. Mowed my own grass most of my life. The drivetrain, cutting deck, and mower blade made the job easier. Hope someone finds this feedback useful :)

Bottom line: Toro and Briggs and Stratton will not honor their advertised warranties. I purchased a new Toro 22” personal pace push lawn mower model #21462 that had severe engine failure exactly 1-year and 1-day from the date of purchase on a 3-year motor warranty. Toro directed me to their website to find an authorized Toro service dealer. The authorized dealer’s $30 diagnosis showed oil full of metal shavings, extensive cylinder damage identified by scope through the sparkplug hole and noted failure due to lack of lubrication. Note that Toro advertises you never change the oil, just check and add. The authorized dealer indicated that B&S and Toro were notoriously poor at honoring warranty issues (<5% of the time) and I should go directly to Toro. Toro warranty service again directed me to follow the warranty procedure. I then checked with 3 authorized Toro service dealers and a full engine breakdown, analysis, and photographs would be required for an additional $60-120, but all confirmed it was highly unlikely that B&S or Toro would honor the 3-year warranty. All three authorized dealer also noted that the Toro “never change oil” advertisement was a marketing gimmick and would likely result in premature engine failure. I researched online Toro and B&S warranty customer feedback and the online search also confirmed that both companies were highly unlikely to honor their warranties. One service dealer called B&S directly and conformed again with them that it would most likely not be covered due to the dirty oil. One authorized dealer did file an official warranty claim with Toro but this was declined. 7 calls to Toro including multiple escalations to Toro management would not convince them to honor their warranty. A side note: at the end of the call with a Toro service rep, he asked if I would like to complete a customer survey after the call. I said I would love to, and he then hung-up. Toro could care less about customer satisfaction and uses gimmick marketing to lure customers in and will then refuse to honor their advertised warranty when you followed their maintenance and service recommendations. BUYER BEWARE!

This is a lereect self-paced mower for my lawn care neededs. Great 4" cut height, easy start, and I don't have to mess with the lawn clipping side shoot any longer. What a great little deal this was!!!
