Q: Can I make this mower mulch without the bag?

- A: Hi, Kimm! Thanks for your question. Yes, this model #21565, can mulch, bag and side discharge. Your machine comes from the factory ready to recycle the grass and leaf clippings back into the lawn. If the grass bag is on the machine, remove it before recycling the clippings. To remove the bag, shut off the machine and wait for all moving parts to stop, raise the rear deflector, remove the bag rod on the grass bag from the notches at the base of the handle, install the discharge plug and lower the rear deflector. You can view more information on pages 16-17 of the manual at: https://www.toro.com/getpub/268943. The discharge chute is attached at the rear, where the bag is attached. In order to avoid waste and help the environment, a side discharge chute is not included in the carton for this model (since most customers prefer to mulch or bag their grass clippings). If you do want to use a side discharge chute for your clippings in the future, you will be offered the opportunity to have one sent to you, at no additional charge, when you register your mower with Toro at www.Toro.com/register. Mower from the future?

I never thought a mower could be so incredible. It is very light, it cuts right through the thick dense grass, and it looks like it's out of a star wars movie. Who knew a mower could be so exciting.

LUCKY I DIDN'T GET HURT

Bought this mower yesterday 7/27/2021. Took out of box this afternoon. Followed quick use instructions. Went to start mower and OMG it made the loudest noise from a mower I have never heard before. Immediately let go of handle and thought great engine is toast. Checked oil again, it was full. Maybe it was just first use noise of a Toro. Went to start again and holy mother of god this thing is going back. Just my luck as I had a Cub Cadet bite the dust after 1 season. Long story there. So I tilted mower back and low and behold I found the issue. The BOLT for the blade was about to fall out!!!! How did this get missed?? What else got missed? Tomorrow I will look and see what damage was done to the blade and deck and check all other bolts for tightness. I am just glad the blade didn't come flying out!!! May change 1 star to more if mower performs well after I check to make sure its safe to operate!

I have a Toro Timemaster too...the only negative on that mower is that it eats belts. Separately, I am waiting on parts to fix pully damage from a rock (no blame on the mower there). As I was waiting, I decided to get the Super Recycler and although it takes me nearly 1 1/2x longer to cut vs the Timemaster (30" vs 21"), the cut on the Super Recycler is superior. So light and maneuverable too. I really enjoy both mowers. Once i get the Timemaster up and going again, they will compliment one another perfectly.

In 3 yrs the recycler w/Personal Pace parts issues

When it is good it is good but when the gear in the rear wheels gets striped or bearings fail the mower is not that great. I have 1/3 A and flat ground and nice grass but the mower doesn't hold up well in less that than 3 years many parts are being replaced. For the price it should be more robust and hold up better.

Poor quality

This mower has been a significant challenge. It was advertised as a quality mower and less then four months in the back wheel bolt has sheared on and the wheel assembly come apart. This is extremely surprising and disappointing for a mower of this price and advertised quality! Along with the quality issue trying to find a service center that is approved has been a challenge as several of the approved service centers no longer service the brand. My entire experience at this point is a giant warning. This is my second toro and I would say something has changed with their quality and service.

I bought this in April,so far so good! I've had only one glitch so far and it was not the lawnmower's fault. I ran over a small twig and it got caught somehow on the v belt and disabled the personal pace feature, which I repaired myself. The catch bag is kinda small but it does catch the grass with minimal grass leakage. It is very fuel efficient and always starts on the first or second pull. I have used the mulch feature in certain areas of my yard and that works very well. overall I like the mower and I would recommend it, but yeah I know it's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for!

Bad engineering

I bought this mower about a year ago and it started out fine but when I started using the rear discharge chute, it frequently clogged up and it is very frustrating when you are trying to cut grass. If you want to cut grass with ease and without having to manually unclog the rear discharge chute do NOT buy this mower

Easy start and the mower adjusts to your pace. Heavy thick grass will clog the discharge chute and bagger. Mowing without the bag throws the clippings on your feet and ankles.

Clump Dumper Not Recycler

I bought mine in March. I have worked to find a solution to the clump and dump approach to recycling. The clippings are constantly clumping together at the closed door which leads to the bag. Today I will remow my yard to shoot the clumps into the bag so I can apply weed killer effectively. Good to own only if you want to always bag your clippings.

Not what I expected

The mower doesn’t cut the grass very well when it is just the slightest damp. It leaves a strip of grass that looks terrible!

Cut is great and allows me to cut almost a half acre without stopping vs the toro 60v that I have and mulching /bagging quality is great. I did take the initial mower back as the tabs for installing the push bar did not align. This issue was fine on the second mower but the wheel alignment is slightly off as well but mower is useable. Also, the rear discharge is taking a long time to arrive so I’m unable to test that feature. Aside from potential production line issues I would still recommend this mower.

Mowing in Texas

First the pros, mower starts first pull each and every time! It’s a pretty mower, and seems to use minimal fuel per mow. It states you never have to do an oil change but I will so it last a long time. Cons, payed a lot of money and a part is held back until you register your mower, registered it almost a month ago and still waiting my part which is payed for. The handle is wider than the mower, this means when you attempt to mow against a fence, you’re mowing at an angle so you can’t move easily along the fence but you must pull it back and forth to move forward, not to mention, you pinch you fingers because, again the handle is wider than the mower. Mulching…I mow twice a week, the mulching ability is poor in that it leaves a trail behind the mower that you have to go thru it again to complete a mulch run. Would I purchase this again knowing what I know. Definitely not for the price I paid for it and what it lacks. Three stars because it starts each time and does fulfill a purpose.

My prior mower was a Honda gas mower which I was very happy with. This Toro has exceeded my expectations. It starts easily and cuts even tall, wet grass without clumping.

Engine starts easy, runs great, ready to mow instantly. Nothing slows it down. Unfortunately only 3 wheels touch the ground at any time, seems like a significant manufacturing flaw. Also the handle seems comically large and has minimal adjustment for height/ergonomics of the user but still trying to adjust it, maybe I missed something. Overall, so close to good.

I've had no issues with this mower. It starts on the first pull and cuts evenly. It dose a great job mulching. I like the SmartStow feature. This replaced my Toro Personal Pace model 20043 from 2001.

Definitely not the mower for anyone that is 5'4" or shorter. Toro missed the mark on needing handle bar height adjustments for the shorter population. You also have to adjust all 4 wheel heights individually rather than a single lever. The slider for the wheel height is also not easy to adjust. Likely returning it because of these 2 major issues

Toro Super Recycler - An awesome experience

I have had many lawnmowers over the years, my last one a Honda. When it came time to replace the Honda due to the mower deck rusting out, I was surprised to find that Honda no longer makes mowers. I did some research and found the Toro Super Recycler to be a top rated mower and it was offered with an aluminum mower deck, no more rust issues! I purchased the Toro and it was super easy to assemble as it comes mostly intact. I have since mowed my yard, which does have some hills and I can honestly say that this Toro is the by far the best walk behind self-propelled lawnmower I have ever had! It feels like I can mow my lawn almost twice as fast with the personal pace drive. The hills are now a breeze. The cut of the grass is perfect and makes my yard look as good as a professional sports field. The easy , guaranteed start is easy but maybe not quite as an effortless pull as the Honda but without the comparison, it is indeed easy to start. I am hopeful that I get as many and more seasons out of this Toro as I did my Honda and based on the build quality that I see and am experiencing, I’m sure I will. I highly recommend this mower and would certainly purchase another when the time comes, hopefully later than sooner! Overall, an awesome mower!

21 in. Super Recycler® self-propelled lawnmower

I do love this lawnmower greatly, but I wish the self-propelled feature was not so attached to the powering of the blade. I prefer to use gas only to spin the blade and not move the lawnmower. However, my old Toro lawnmower had a discharge chute on its right side that tended to fall off when I hit things, and this new model is smooth on both sides so that I can do edge work on the left or right sides.
