Q: What weight class is considered to be a small dog breed? I have a 27 pound French Bulldog/ Pug mix and from what I’ve read online, he is at the heavier end of the small breed class. Would this food be sufficient for his weight?

A: Hello – great question! While Appalachian Valley was developed specifically for small breed dogs, which are generally considered to be less than 22 pounds, it is fine for larger adult dogs to eat this recipe as it will provide a balanced diet for any sized dog. We recommend following the feeding guidelines which can be found on the side of the bag and/or on our website here https://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/dog-formulas/appalachian-valley-small-breed-canine-formula-with-venison-garbanzo-beans/.

A: Hi, Lexie. We are sorry to hear about your Mini Schnauzer’s pancreatitis and hope they are on the mend! The formulas listed below have the lowest fat percentages at 15% on an as-fed basis. - Pacific Stream Canine Formula - Sierra Mountain Canine Formula - Southwest Canyon Canine Formula - Pine Forest Canine Formula We recommend consulting with your veterinarian to find the most appropriate diet for your dog’s condition.

Q: We have small breed dogs. Rocko is a Sheltie-11 years, Cici is a Miniature Schnauzer-11 years, & 2 Yorkies- Murphy and Buzz are both 9 years. We need small kibble. Do you recommend this dog food or puppy dog food that is good for all life stages?

  • Taste of the Wild
A: Hello, our Appalachian Valley Small Breed Formula is a great option for your dogs! Appalachian Valley was developed specifically to meet the needs of small breed dogs, by being more energy dense with higher amounts of protein and fat. This means your dogs can eat small portions to meet their nutritional requirements. If your dogs tend to be overweight and/or less active, we would recommend one of our All Life Stages Puppy Formulas – High Puppy Prairie Puppy Formula or Pacific Stream Puppy Formula. Both have smaller kibbles and contain lower protein and fat amounts than Appalachian Valley. a month ago
I bought the Taste of the Wild High Prairie and my dod got sick. She had very bad diarrhea. She was very sick to the point that she had blood coming out of her projectile diarrhea.

I have been waiting for TOTW to come out with a small breed dog food! I bought a bag for my 11 yr old Min Pin and my 6 and 3 yr old Mini Manchester Terriers. They LOVE it! The Min Pin is diabetic and she is doing awesome on it.

Wild for Small Breed bites

My lil man Taco can’t get enough of these lil morsels! He loves hiding them in his bed or throwing them up in the air to celebrate. The small, crunchy, tasty bites fill him up without overfeeding and for cleanup, it results in easy pickup. *wink* . We love Taste of The Wild!
