With the American Farm Works 0.1-Joule 5-Mile Solar-Powered Electric Fence Energizer, your fence can have power from anywhere. This fence charger runs for up to 2 weeks without sunlight and is powered by an internal rechargeable battery. With 0.10 output joules, this energizer will support animals and livestock such as cattle, horses, pigs and goats. This charger energizes up to 5 miles of fencing, although if using poly products, you should expect about half of the power. The more material along the fence line, the harder the energizer must work to pass voltage through the line. To prepare this electric fence charger for first use, place the unit in full sun for 3 days in the off position. After this charging period, the unit is ready to use and install. Set the charger's patented mounting bracket onto a T-post or wood post. This charger includes a post-mount adapter. Adjustable mounting options and a slim design allow this charger to rotate 360 degrees to face the sun's changing directions. The season guide will help you choose the perfect angle. The durable case will protect the energizer against the elements. Good but slowly declining in effectiveness

Worked great at first but started losing its charge about 4 weeks in. It’s so low now that I can grab the fence with my hand and it doesn’t hardly give a shock. Checked ground rods (3) and connections and all seem to be exactly how it was when I originally hooked everything up. This was a replacement of the first one I bought that didn’t work at all right out of the box. TS swapped it out for me and I made sure to get the warranty. Getting ready to add another section of wired up fence on another part of the property and not sure if I’ll use this same brand. For the record it’s only powering about 250 feet of fence with 6 corners and 3 gate attachments.

BEWARE of this product!

There is no manual. I've spent over an hour trying to find the manual for the American Farm Works 5 mile Solar Electric Fence Controller. This should be an easy download and printing task. The QR code provides a very small guide where the pages are connected. It can not be enlarged and the small print on the two strips of connected pages is worthless - too small to read. I went to both the American Farm Works website and Tractor supply website. There I faced the prospect of downloading an app that would supposedly print out the manual. Why is it not just a simple PDF file to print out. I do not trust downloading an app onto my computer with no knowledge if it contains a computer virus, etc. The reviews for this product are very mixed - others were not able to download the manual, many complained that the product did not work or failed within a short period of time, another person indicated that the warranty was not honored even though it was not expired. I am returning this product to Tractor Supply. There are too many RED FLAGS. Beware!

My fourth one just stopped working. I used them for my mini donkeys and goats. I love that you can easily move pens around anywhere with a convenient solar charger but it doesn’t last at all. I have spent around 600 replacing them. I shouldn’t have to replace them every year. They work great when new then eventually stop working at all. This is the only brand sold local in my area but I will be ordering something else online this time.

It was easy to set out to change and put up. It holds a charge great and keeps my horses in. You don’t have to worry about your animals getting out when the power goes out! This product does have a warranty and if the charger goes out before the warranty is up, Tractor Supply makes it right! I just showed them my receipt!

I just purchased this controller a couple of days ago. My old Gallagher bit the dust. I see nothing on the box. Unit had ZERO paperwork. No info on battery replacement. Staff at Tractor supply didn’t know either. It would be nice to know if the battery is easily replaceable and the cost of the battery. With no documentation inside the box there is no way to tell without opening the unit.
Solar chargers don’t do well when kept in the dark, and neither do I. We’ll see how this unit does.

Charger works fine but mounting bracket for t-post is poor design. It breaks off if anything comes in contact with the unit. If you could order a new bracket, it would be OK. But there was no way on their lifetime warranty website to order a bracket for it. Tractor supply told me since I didn’t buy their own lifetime warranty there is nothing they would do about it. I bought five minute epoxy and glued it all back together and it worked for about a month before it broke off again. I would never buy another American farm Works product again. The lifetime warranty gave me no help.

Terrible product that worked for one growing season protecting my garden. Brought it in the house for the winter then hooked up again in June for the garden. Worked properly for a few weeks now red/red light and so no charge. There is a rabbit destroying my garden even with Chicken wire surrounding the perimeter and 4 strands of electric tape surrounding the 30x50 ft garden. Need to replace unit ASAP. Too much money for something that worked for such a short time.

Bought this energizer for a small electric net for my Pygmy goats. Charged in the full sun for 4 days (manufacturer said 3 days), and I’m talking about in the South in summer with hardly a cloud in the sky), and when I set it up, it had NO charge. Red-red. Waste of time and money. My goats busted through the chicken wire after set up and got their heads stuck in the fence, and one almost strangled herself to death. If you need this product to work when you’re setting up your system, have extra fail safes in place so you don’t lose one of your beloved animals.

I purchased one at Tractor Supply, mounted per instructions, let it charge turned off for 3 days, turned on and my dogs walked up and leaned on the wire with no effect. Tested and all the lights on tester flickered. Decided to return for an exchange and as I began to take it off the T-pole water started pouring out of it. Brought home the new one and repeated the install and charging process and again not working. As I started unhooking it water started pouring out of it. I could actually see the housing cracked at the screen. I am now researching other brands.

Ran 5 separate lines off of the solar unit. 1 line ran to the ground rod, 5 lines ran off the "Hot" line. The system was fairly easy to set up. When I was touching it to see if it was working it felt like a small insect bite and that was it. I then took my shoes off and touched it.... I almost peed...

Followed directions for charging before I used it. Connected with brand new wire and 8’ ground rod. Only get a tickle out of it. Connect to fence nothing. Have tried different connectors to fence and still nothing. Connected my 3 yr old plug in electrifier bam get shocked.
This is cheap weak junk. Don’t waist your money on this. Save your money and Buy a Gallagher.

I have successfully installed two electric fences. Followed all the directions on this unit - charge in the sun for three days etc. it charged but it doesn’t energize the fence. I did multiple troubleshooting steps and no luck. Bad unit.

Do Not Buy. I have had this for less than 2 years, it died. Supposed to have a 3 year warranty. Verified with multi-meter. Called Zareba ( parent company) and they will not warranty it without me having to buy the $52 fence tester. I won't buy any of their products ever again.

Poor Quality Energizer

I have purchased 5 of these energizers in the last 2 years and there is always a problem with them. We test all connections including grounding and make sure fence wire is clear and still the energizer won’t work. I did contact the manufacturer on one occasion but it was a hassle going through their troubleshooting and satisfying their requirements to get it replaced. I just want them to work longer than 1-2 years.
