This fence charger runs up to 2 weeks without sunlight and is powered by an internal rechargeable battery. With 0.15 output joules, it supports a variety of animals and livestock, such as cattle, horses, pigs and goats, and energizes up to 10 miles of fencing. This electric fence charger includes a built-in battery monitor, which allows you to keep track of your battery's health. NOT FOR CATTLE- this charger os only 0.15 joules and far under the needed 5+ joules needed to contain cattle. Why it is marketed for cattle makes no sense. Even with over 6kV and no faults cattle just push through it. Might work for gardens/varmits but I wouldn’t recommend for livestock of any kind.

Died in under a year. No customer service

We had ours for 10 months and it is completely dead. It won't charge and doesn't put off any currency through the fence wire. American Farm Works does not have their number listed on their website and the email address does not work. I would not recommend using this company. I also feel that if Tractor Supply is going to sell a product that claims to have a 3 year warranty, they could do a little better helping us resolve this problem.

Not Sun or Rain Proof

I have been using this energizer for about 3 months. Rain water has always drained out of it when ever I take it down to check it. It keeps on working, but now I see that the plastic above the solar panel has overheated and warped badly such that there is now a sizeable gap for rain to enter the unit. I live in Florida and the unit was mounted close to the side of a dark painted barn in all day full sun. If you get this unit, you should mount it in an open area with plenty of ventilation and without any reflected heat!!!

I bought 2 units:
The good - They were very easy to install
The bad - One failed after a year with the plastic on the face on both of them becoming cracked and crazed. With a little sprinkle of rain <0.01 a unit failed. I'm going to buy a 3rd with warranty but just may go with a more complicated set up with 120VAC source if/when the next fails. I probably wont buy from them again. 200USD X 3 is to much for a simple electric fence charger

Solar and battery work great The mounting system is awful. If you want to use a t post it has to be in perfect condition if it was ever pounded in the t post bend slightly and this mount won't work for you. If you want to mount to a round post the wood post option is great if you want to mount to a square post it's a terrible design

Set it up and let it charge in the full sun for four days (one longer than it calls for). Turned it on and got the tiniest of a spark only a few inches from the charger. After that nothing. Ran an extension cord out and used a plug in style and got an instant strong spark about 1 1/2 miles away, so it was not my fence. The range should say 10 inches not 10 miles.

Not Weatherproof

As others mentioned, there were only minimal instructions and no real manal. Not even online.The unit worked as expected for almost 3 years, then failed. I spent $50 on a replacement battery, but when I opened the unit up to put it in, out poured about 10 oz of water and thistle fluff. If the unit is weatherproof, how could this happen? Other than the obvious lack of seals around the solar panel and edges, there was no physical damage to the unit and no observed cracks. I had not opened the case prior to this occasion and all of the screws seemed tight. Warranty expired or not, this is a major manufacturer's defect for a "weatherproof" appliance! I called customer service and got a person with a very hard-to-understand foreign accent. I had to keep asking her to repeat herself. I got put on hold several times, then was told that I could use a code for 15% off a new unit, but the code would only work if I placed the order directly with the manufacturer at their set price. No opportunity to shop store sales, and at a regular price of $200, that's no bargain. I will not buy the American Farmworks brand again!

Not ideal for extremely cold climate.

Since July of 2024 we have gone through 2 of these fencers. We live in Northern Minnesota and recently when temps dropped we noticed one of our horses out so went to check the fence (it was intact) then went to check the fencer. Fencer had a full charge but was not powering. We believe it was due to the drop in temperature or moisture within the electric all components. With the 1st fence the plastic piece that attaches to the T-post cracked. I srongly recommend getting the warranty on this product. And do not recommend if you live in an extremely cold climate.

I have purchased three of these units over the last few years I have one that the mounting bracket is broken. Call customer support to find someone that sells it and they are no help. Will only help you if you can give them original purchase date with receipt. Tell them I was not interested in warranty replacement that I just wanted to purchase it and they still will not help me. I will never purchase one of these units again

Product is junk. Lasted 7 months until it broke. Then you have to wait for the manufacturer to send a replacement in which they give you no expected delivery date as they are “behind on processing.” Pay more for a good unit. Save yourself the headache.

May not be a quality product

The unit I purchased had a system self-check function that did not work (no lights displayed when system test was pushed). I allowed the unit to charge in full sun longer than the required minimum 3 days. I returned the unit and replaced it with another (exact model) and (after the required solar charge time) the system self-check on that unit did not function either. I chose to keep the unit and will replace it with a different model if/when it fails. It appears there may be quality issues with American Farmwork products.

The interior frame around the solar panel isn’t sealed so water seeps in and eventually fills up and burns out the internal components causing replacement.

Fencer doesn't work

I have it in full sun with no trees blocking it. Only temporarily works. Won't hold a charge, only works 1 day then has to recharged for 3 days. I have bought 2 and can't return the second one because I am past 90 days. Absolutely would not recommend these. They are trash.
