Buckeyes, the first recognized breed developed by a woman, were created in Ohio by crossing Cochins, Plymouth Rocks, and Malay breeds. Hoover's Hatchery BUCP Buckeye Chickens feature rich, brilliant red plumage, yellow legs, and a pea comb. These good egg layers begin to lay between 6 and 7 months of age and grow fairly rapidly. Buckeyes are hardy and resist frostbite very well, thanks to their small comb and wattles. Due to their Malay ancestry, they are very rugged and excellent foragers. Their easy-going demeanor, adaptability and laid back nature make them a great addition to your flock. The Buckeye chicken is the ultimate combination of beautiful plumage, utility, and hardiness for the backyard or farm.
