Q: Does it give a constant 12v, or trickle charge and does it have to detect a battery

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. The Universal Power Group 6V/12V Charger does not provide a constant 12 V output; it applies a higher charging voltage to push current into the battery. It is not a true trickle or maintenance charger, meaning it does not automatically taper or stop charging once the battery is full. Additionally, it does not detect the presence of a battery, it will begin supplying charge whenever it is plugged in and powered. Users need to monitor charging to avoid overcharging, as the unit lacks smart charging or automatic shutoff features.

Q: How do you know when the battery is charging and charged?

1 Answer
  • A: By time, it does not have an indicator so its the Ah of the battery divided by .5 amps times 1.3 equals your charge time. 5 Ah battery divided by .5 = 10 hours times 1.3 = 13 total hours. If your battery is 12.3 volts before charging it will be half that time.

Q: A person that buys this charger also has to buy a volt ohm meter to keep a check on the battery if that is the case one should be included with the charger or an indicator built in the charger

1 Answer
  • A: This is the difference with a single stage charger verse a multistage charger. Multistage chargers tell you when the charging is done. Time for charge is take the Ah divided by .5 times 1.3. 5 Ah battery would be 5/.5 = 10 times 1.3 = 13 hours.

Q: no charging indication,so how do i know the amount of time to charge my battery?

1 Answer
  • A: We recommend taking a calibrated voltage meter and charge the 12 volt battery until the voltage increases to 14.8 volts and then remove the charger. It is 7.4 volts for a 6 volt battery.

Poor Product

Does not have a charge status indicator light, warns you not to overcharge, and tells you to periodically check with a volt meter……give me a break. Disappointed in Tractor Supply for carrying this product. Piece of crap…..back to store it goes.

Worthless - no indicator, no shutoff

I just bought one for my 6v battery. Since it will just keep charging if you leave it on, and there is no indicator light when the battery is charged, or auto-shut off. It is absolutely worthless. The Q&A says to buy a volt meter. Sorry, nobody is going to do that. It was 29.00 too. Going right back to the store.

No, I do not recommend this product.
