Troy-Bilt 16 in. 208cc Super Bronco Rear-Tine Counter-Rotating Gas Tiller with 1-Hand Operation

This tiller has plenty of power just like the old "Big Red" version. Two passes through my bed and it was ready to plant. The backward rotation depth was good and the soil was finely tilled, over 6" deep, maneuverability was great and I had no issues with traction. My only complaint is during the first run several bolts fell out and the tine came off. The tine was never installed, just slid on the axle. The bolts in the handle all fell out as they were never tightened. I will come back after planting season and update this review if I have further issues.

Didn't work out the tines went opposite and we literally have to push it through the garden. sure wish i could get my money back.

A piece of junk. I consider myself a decent small engine mechanic. I have never owned anything I had to work on every season. I am so dissatisfied with this piece of equipment. Please do not waste your money. Go to a reputable dealer and pay the extra for a reliable machine. Keith H. Sieper, LA

A handy small tiller. Easy to start and easy to maneuver. I replaced an older larger tiller with this one and still got done in the same time because it handles so much better. Very simple operation - one lever for backup and the normal bale for forward. The only draw back is the need to manipulate the wheel axle pins for freewheel travel - but MUCH easier to maneuver when you do. All in all, a well built, quality machine for moderate sized gardens.

Pros: Easy start, easy to handle during tilling. Cons: I had to go through and rebuild some things before I could start using it. The kill switch wire was stretched across the top of the engine, ty-wrapped to the heat shield of the muffler, then straight up to the top of the handle bar from there. It was as taut as a guitar string. Reverse wouldn't work, I found the drive belt was misrouted and jammed. I had always regarded "Troy-Bilt" as top quality but it looks like they are hiring rejects from Miss Jane's School of Sewing to put these things together.

I picked up a unit that had been sitting outside already out of the box and assembled. Unit had oil and fuel in it as well so I test fired it before I left the store. Got it home and started making little adjustments as the routing for the cables and the kill switch weren't the best. Because it had been sitting outside the foam handle had already started splitting on the corners so I just peeled it off and wrapped it with a decent handlebar wrap. Tilled a small portion of what will be my garden and overall for it being a smaller tiller and I'm tilling North Texas clay that has never been broke it hasn't done bad at all. Time will tell how it holds up but I think it will do well.

Attempted (1) purchase, but returned after assembly due to missing parts. The unit was boxed from factory, but missing the transmission oil plug, as well as the gear oil; the gear oil was no big deal, but the missing plug is a problem, and it wasn't clear how long the transmission had been exposed during storage (it looked OK visually, but it's only possible to see a very small portion, without taking it apart). Just for reference, the plug was also not available at the Troy-Bilt parts web portal, so I elected to return the unit to exchange it (I had it for less than 20 hours). On the 2nd attempt (during the exchange of the previous), I decided to unbox at TSC to inspect prior to bringing home. This unit had the plug, and the gear oil, but the latter had leaked in the box, and also gotten rained on, so the whole unit was covered in oily water, and debris that had collected on the oil (TSC had it stored in a canvas tent on the side of the store). Ultimately, I opted for a refund and went home, but the last issue is: I noticed oil on my concrete porch, about 1" x 3", where the engine oil that I put into the unit I had (for 20 hours), leaked. I'm assuming this is a leaky oil seal between the engine and output pulley, since that was the only oil that was put in. Anyway, doesn't look like you Troy-Bilt cares much for quality, and for $1,000+, I really need better than this.

The cover broke after 2 uses. Then the wheel fell off because the pin opened and shimmer off. The depth adjuster is hard to move. Generally disappointed in the quality

Very happy with its performance. Used it on grass and hit some rocks. It had no problems at all. It went through everything.

Power to move up an incline and reverse-

If you have soft dirt do not buy this tiller. With the wheels going forward and tines rotating backwards it just sinks in soft dirt. You end up having to push it or lift the tines out of the dirt and use more of the tires to get it to move forward.

Tiller is ok at best, in soft soil it wanders and is hard to control. If the wheel spacing were adjustable to widen it would help. Starts easy lightly built.

Great tiller. Made the soil almost talc like. I highly recommend.

Easy to start, does the job.

It works as it should , It is quiet and efficient. The Super Bronco CRT is as good as it gets. It is a pleasure to operate and you can see the overall quality. I am 78 years old and have included a new hobby (gardening) to my agenda.

i wish i had never bought one. now knowing you do not carry any replacement parts for it.

Just not enough power. I used to have a Troy tiller years ago and bought this to help dig out some new space because my mantis tiller was too much work for a new large garden. Disappointed with the lack of power as my older troy tiller was bad to the bone. Maybe they put something wrong together when putting it together? Any ideas how to get this tiller to perform better? Just really disappointed

Engine starts easily and runs smoothly. Tines till through the soil and don't throw the user around that much for what I call "rock harvesting" in my yard for both soil preparation for grass and for the garden.

This is a follow up on my review for the Super Bronco tiller I purchased. After review I got a response from Troy Bilt customer service saying they wanted to discuss my problem and gave me a case number to refer to. Called them and after about 8 minutes of actually talking to a human with a terrible English accent And spending 17 minutes listening to music while the rep "talked to someone" I was told the warranty on the transmission was only 2 years at which point I reminded the agent their website actually says the transmission has a "limited lifetime warranty", The agent then said no it is 2 years at which point I terminated the call.

Haven't used it too much but very pleased so far!!

This is my second review for this but I need to share this info. On my old Pro-Line Troy Bilt tiller when lot of weeds got wrapped around. the tine fixture shaft I would just remove the nut and bolt and the fixtures slide right off. On the new Super Bronco I purchased when you take the bolts out the tine fixtures will not come off even when tapping them with a hammer. As a retired 32 year career Engineer I suspect this is why. On the older Pro-Line tiller the shafts for the tine fixture was made from hot rolled steel which is very durable and extremely hard. The shafts on the Super Bronco may be made of cold rolled steel which is not as durable . It appears to me there is a slight slippage between the shaft and the tine fixture which caused the hole in the shaft to flare out slightly and prevent the tine fixture from being removed. If I am incorrect then I ask Troy Bilt and contact me and explain what might cause that problem.

Purchased this on 2/14/2021. During the first year took it to Troy Bilt warranty shop twice for oil leaking from transmission. . Both times I was told the unit's main oil seal was improperly installed. I’ve had a Pro-Line tiller since about 2009 and have changed the main oil seal 3 times and know that is so easy it’s almost impossible to mess up. Took it in again in 10/2024 for a grinding noise coming for the transmission. I was then told the transmission needed to be replaced for $1200.00 (a new one costs $1000.00.) Contacted Troy Bilt home office and after their several conversations with me and the warranty shop they decided the transmission problem was my faul

Very good tiller, runs great

I replaced a 20 year old Troy-Bilt tiller with this model. I did not realize what CRT actually meant and the operation of counter rotating tines is completely different between the two models. But I am growing to love the aggressive action of this tiller. My old one would bounce around and I would have to hold it back from jumping around. This one does a great job of breaking up the hard pan of untilled soil. A bit bigger than my old Bronco and really enjoy the nice upgrades in controls

Troy Bilt sent not one but two Super Bronco tillers to the Pittsburg Ks store that were assembled wrong resulting in the reverse lever jerking me over the machine!! I bought the machine because of its ease of operation as I have owned the same machine before!! I wouldn’t be upset except I’m disabled and now worse and considering pursuing legal advice for compensation for future expenses of my medical bills
