Q: How long does this take to work
a year ago2 Answers
- A: Thank you for reaching out to us. The number #1 reason for rodent control program failure is under baiting. This situation arises when the size of the rodent population is underestimated leading to insufficient amounts of applied bait resulting in poor control. The bait you are using, Tomcat 9lb Bait Chunx, are made with the active ingredient Diphacinone which is a multiple feed anticoagulant meaning it takes multiple feedings for a rodent to reach a lethal dose. Once the mouse consumes a lethal dose, you should expect to see results in 4 or more days. If speed of control is important in your application, we recommend using brands such as Tomcat with Bromethalin or our newest brand called Prowler. When compared to anticoagulant baits, Tomcat with Bromethalin and Prowler may cut your control time in half.a year agoHelpful?
Q: Is this poison safe around pets children and water
Anonymous2 years ago1 Answer
- A: This product is a poison and precaution should be taken to prevent any non-target animals (pets and children) from accessing the bait, in accordance with the label instructions. If the bait is being put out in areas where other animals will be near it, you can protect the bait from them by using approved Bait Stations, which only allow rats & mice to enter and feed on the bait. The Bait Station also helps to prevent the bait from getting wet which will help maintain the palatability to make it appealing to rats and mice.2 years agoHelpful?
Q: How bad can it hurt a small dog if it digests any of it?
4 years ago1 Answer
- A: There are a lot of factors that can affect how a dog might react to consuming rodent bait: size of the dog, how much other food/water they have had to drink, etc. If a pet has eaten any toxic bait you should monitor them and contact a veterinarian if you notice any strange behaviors or symptoms.4 years agoHelpful?
Q: Will this kill small cottontail rabbits and ground squirrels? Thank you.
5 years ago1 Answer
- A: This product is only approved to control the species listed on the label (norway rats, roof rats, house mice, meadow voles and a few other listed species). We haven't tested it on ground squirrels, rabbits or any other "non-target" animals and can't legally recommend this bait for use outside of the specific species listed on the label. There are several products available for use on California Ground Squirrels, including Tomcat Ground Squirrel Bait...otherwise live trapping or snap traps are also an option.5 years agoHelpful?
Q: How many pieces are in this 9 Lb pail?
5 years ago1 Answer
- A: We fill the pails by weight, so we don't count the exact number of individual units, but there should be a minimum of 144 x 1oz Bait Chunx in a 9lb Pail.5 years agoHelpful?
Q: If a cat eats a block or two will it kill a cat?
5 years ago2 Answers
- A: It is difficult to predict whether or not adverse health effects or death will occur from accidental bait ingestions, as the response to a poison can vary greatly between individual animals. Factors such as the cat’s age, sex, body weight, general health and genetics can all contribute to the outcome of a poison ingestion. To prevent accidental exposures, apply the bait in tamper-resistant bait stations and store the unused product in the original container in a place where the pet cannot access it. If an accidental exposure occurs, call the poison service using the number listed on the packaging or contact a veterinarian, as the antidote (vitamin K1) can be given if necessary.5 years agoHelpful?
Q: Will a dead mouse while using this product cause any issues to an outside cat that may eat the dead mouse?
5 years ago1 Answer
- A: Unfortunately there is little scientific data regarding potential secondary poisoning, and so we can't make any definitive conclusions. However this particular bait contains Diphacinone, which is a 1st generation, multiple feed anticoagulant bait. Generally the concerns about secondary poisoning have been surrounding second generation, single feed anticoagulants. There are a lot of variables that can contribute to secondary poisoning and we always recommend following label instructions with regards to placements and disposal of dead rodents since those are legally approved methods for applying rodent bait.5 years agoHelpful?

Q: WHAT IS THE STORAGE SHELF LIFE OF THIS PRODUCT? STORED IN WHAT CONDITIONS--TEMP? MOISTURE?
7 years ago1 Answer
- A: The bait should remain effective for up to 1 year after being manufactured. Generally the active ingredient will remain effective, however fresher bait is more attractive rodents, so they may be less likely to eat it if it's been around awhile. We recommend storing bait in cool, dry areas, so a hot & humid environment will degrade the bait faster.7 years agoHelpful?

The good stuff.

If you have an ongoing problem with rats or other rodents in a shed, this is the only way to go. If you put a few out and then leave the bucket sitting there sealed up they will chew through the bucket to get to the baits. They love this stuff! Buying it in the 9 lb tub is only about 35% the cost of buying the 1 lb bags.
