Thyro-Tabs Canine, containing Levothyroxine Sodium, is a prescription medication used to replace deficient thyroid hormone in dogs with hypothyroidism. Proper thyroid hormone levels are essential for maintaining normal metabolic function, mental health, and physical activity in pets. This hypothyroidism medication for dogs is available in a variety of different strengths and includes 120 tablets per bottle. Prescription required. How it Works

The cause of hypothyroidism is deficiency in T3 (liothyronine) and T4 (levothyroxine) which leads to general metabolic disease. Complete physiologic replacement of thyroid can be achieved by solely administering levothyroxine sodium. This medication provides T4, or levothyroxine, as a layer for physiologic deiodination to T3, or liothyronine.

Special Precautions

Take precautions to avoid an overdose of this medication, which could cause:

  • Changes in personality
  • Decreased tolerance for heat
  • Hyperactivity
  • Polyphagia
  • Polyuria
  • Polydipsia
Use caution when administering Thyro-Tabs Canine to dogs with hypertension or heart disease that is significant clinically, or with dogs that have complications that are dangerous with an increase in metabolic rate.
