Q: I set up 5 gallon buckets with a whole dunk in each. In about 4 days I had Wrigglers in 2 of the buckets. Is this normal? I set a bucket under my lemon tree and went on vacation. Wrigglers and mosquitos were present upon return. Did is I get bad dunks?
4 years ago- A: If the Dunks were stored in an area that exceeds 100 degrees it is possible that the Dunks were affected. But other things to keep in mind is that the bacteria has to be ingested by the larvae (wrigglers) to work and if it was ingested it is not an immediate kill (though after ingestion they should be dead within 24 hours). While on vacation female mosquitoes will continue to lay eggs in standing water so the wrigglers you saw upon your return could have been a new generation that either had not ingested the bacteria or had not yet died from the ingestion. Baiting buckets with Dunks is no guarantee of mosquito control as the mosquitoes could easily be breeding in other areas of standing water (rain gutters, tree holes, storm drains, irrigation control pits, etc.) We can discuss this further if you wish - please call us at 800-227-8864 8am to 3pm Eastern Time4 years agoHelpful?
