Q: Hi, does this have enough zinc additive for a 1967 vw beetle engine?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Patrick, Yes, Shell Rotella T1 30 does contain zinc, with approximately 950 parts per million (PPM) of zinc. This level of zinc is generally sufficient for older engines like the 1967 VW Beetle, which benefit from higher zinc content to protect against wear, especially in the camshaft and lifters. Alternatively, you might consider Rotella T4 15W-40. This oil is known for its high zinc content (around 1200 ppm), which is particularly beneficial for older engines with flat tappet camshafts. It provides excellent wear protection and is a solid choice for classic cars. Thanks for your interest in Shell Rotella motor oils!

Q: Should I use this T1 30 SAE or 15w 40 T4 blend in a 1966 Farmall with the C263? Let me know your thoughts.

  • A: Hello Mark, I do not see the OEM requirements for your older Farmall. Typically late 60s tractors called for mono grades for engine oil. Before making a decision I would check the OEM manual for the proper specifications and viscosty for your ambient temperature. Thank you for usinf Rotella. Sincerely, Don S.

Q: Our 1967 Ford 5000 diesel tractor says to use SAE 20W for 32 to 90 degree weather (fits our situation); SAE10W for 10 to 40 degrees and SAE 30W for over 75 degrees. I can not find 20W. Am I better with 30W or a multi-vis 10W/30 or ? High zinc oil?

Excellent Motor Oil

Have used this product for years. Have a 22 year old JD275 Garden Tractor and change oil and filter at beginning of every mowing season using Shell SAE30 exclusively. 22 years old and runs like a champ, no oil usage, clean on the stick. Its hard sometimes to find a straight 30W oil, but Tractor Supply has available at a good price.
