Reclaim your fresh waterbody, pond, lake, lagoon, or watering tank with Sonar RTU aquatic herbicide, the professional-grade solution for long-term aquatic weed management. This powerful systemic herbicide is absorbed through the entire plantfrom leaves to rootsto deliver season-long control of invasive pond weeds like hydrilla, milfoil, curly-leaf pondweed, sago pondweed, coontail, lily pads, duckweed, and bladderwort. The unique "Ready-to-Use" liquid formula requires just a single application cycle to treat the entire waterbody. Sonar RTU is remarkably safe with NO use restrictions on swimming, fishing, boating, or livestock watering, making it the ideal herbicide for natural farm ponds. For a clear, healthy, and manageable pond all season long, apply this Ready to Use product when you start to see active weed growth. Always read and follow the label instructions. Cannot ship to AK, CT, ME, NJ, NY, VT, WA, or outside the USA.Use to control duckweed, pondweeds, hydrilla, bladderwort, water milfoil, and many more.

For additional information on this product, please see the Product Documents section for all downloadable user manuals, installation guides, brochures and warranty statements.

  • Whole-Pond, Systemic Action: Sonar is absorbed through the leaves and roots of target plants, traveling throughout their entire system (systemic action), ensuring the entire plant, including hard-to-reach roots, is effectively controlled.
  • Effective on a Broad Spectrum of Weeds: It is highly effective against many troublesome submerged, emergent, and floating weeds, including Duckweed, Eurasian watermilfoil, hydrilla, pondweeds, coontail, and elodea.
  • Long-Lasting, Residual Control: A single application provides season-long control, preventing regrowth for an extended period and reducing the need for multiple treatments.
  • No Dissolved Oxygen Depletion: Unlike fast-acting contact herbicides that kill plants rapidly and can cause a dangerous drop in dissolved oxygen as they decay, Sonar works slowly, minimizing the risk of fish kills from oxygen depletion.
  • Easy-to-Use Liquid Formulation: The "Ready-To-Use" (RTU) liquid formulation is designed for simple application and mixes readily with water for uniform distribution.
  • No Water Use Restrictions: When applied according to the product label, there are no restrictions on swimming, fishing, livestock watering, or drinking -a significant advantage for recreational and agricultural ponds.
  • Application Rate: 4 Quarts per 1/2 surface acre (see label and chart for additional details)
  • Prevents Reproduction: By killing the entire plant, including reproductive structures, it helps prevent the spread of invasive species through fragmentation or seed production.
  • Enhances Recreational Access: Effective weed control opens up waterways for boating, swimming, fishing, and other water sports by removing physical barriers.
  • Reduces Habitat for Pests: Dense weed mats are ideal habitats for mosquitoes and other nuisance insects. Controlling them helps reduce these pest populations.
  • Promotes a Balanced Fishery: While providing habitat, excessive weeds can also impede predator fish from foraging. Controlling overgrowth can lead to a healthier, more balanced fish population.
  • Helps Restore Native Plant Communities: By controlling aggressive invasive species, Sonar RTU can help give native, beneficial aquatic plants a chance to re-establish.
  • Prevents Clogging of Intakes: Protects water infrastructure by preventing weeds from clogging pump intakes, irrigation lines, and drainage systems.
  • Supported by Professional Expertise: The use of Sonar is often supported by extensive research and a network of aquatic management professionals who can provide guidance on its proper application.
  • Cannot ship to AK, CT, ME, NJ, NY, VT, WA or outside of the United States

Q: How much should I use for 30000 gallons of water

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, for 30,000 gallons of water, you should use approximately 12 fluid ounces of SePRO Sonar RTU for the initial treatment. This calculation is based on the standard application rate of 1 quart (32 oz) per 1/4 surface acre of water with an average depth of 4 feet (which equals one "acre-foot" of water).

Q: Is it best to put this in a pond before lily pads come out? They start coming out in late April or 1st of May and pretty much cover the whole pond. Does it need to be applied every year? 1/2 to 1acre size so use enough for 1 acre? Don't know the size.

1 Answer
  • A: Hi! Great question! I've attached the user manual link down below: Here is what the manufacturer recommends: Maximum Pond Size 1 qt. per 1/18th surface acre Maximum Recommended Pond Depth 30 ft. WHEN & HOW TO APPLY • Apply during sunny, dry, non-windy conditions. • Apply when weeds are actively growing. Best results typically achieved by starting applications just as weeds have started to grow. • Apply Sonar RTU directly into the water either in one location or multiple locations and Sonar RTU will mix throughout the pond. • SePRO recommends use of this product with Captain® Liquid Copper Algaecide if algae infestation is present at time of application. • For best results, Sonar RTU can be applied according to the schedule below, with the initial application followed by two additional applications three-weeks apart. Use Table 1 for general aquatic weed control. Use Table 2 for the additional benefit of partial control of watermeal. https://media.tractorsupply.com/is/content/TractorSupplyCompany/tsc/product/1/65/81/76/1658176_Man1.pdf

Q: will this product work on an overabundance of lily pads ?

1 Answer
  • A: yes, Sonar RTU at a rate of 8 quarts per acre will control Lilypads no matter how many. The key to success is long contact time, so you want little to no flow of the water out of the pond.
