The Buyers Products TGSUV1B 4.4 cu. ft. Tailgate Spreader is a simple and effective tool for residential spreading of #1 free flowing rock salt. With its compact size, hitch mount design, and auxiliary power plug adapter, the TGSUV1B makes it easy to spread with an SUV or a 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton truck. It features a corrosion-resistant 4.4 cu. ft. poly hopper. The hitch mount is compatible with 1-1/4 in. or 2 in. Class 3 or 4 receivers and can fold away for easy tailgate access. Q: Can the opening from the hopper be regulated to control the amount of material going out of the hopper onto the spinner? I'm wondering about using it to spread fertilizer and would need to be able to adjust the flow. Thanks

- A: A 23 ft wire harness connects from the spreaders motor through the vehicle and plugs into the auxiliary power outlet. There is an inline on/off switch approximately 33" from the auxiliary plug that controls the spreaders motor.7 years agoHelpful?
Q: What is the holding capacity, ie, 50 lb bags...? Does this spreader have a vibrator to keep the salt from compacting, hence not spreading?

Works reasonably well for a cheaper spreader however, it does jam up on larger pieces of rock salt. If you use bagged salt which tends to clump, be prepared to unplug the spreader. This is powered by a 12v plug. We ran it through the passenger door and still had plenty of length. The power switch is in line with the power cord, so installation is quick.
