A: Great question! Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer must be topcoated. It can be topcoated after 1 hour, but should be topcoated before 7 days, which is when this primer reaches it's full durability and hardness. — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

A: You've come to the right place! We recommend using Rust-Oleum Farm & Implement Paint. Yes, the primer is water-based; however, it can accept an oil-based finish. It's a must to leave painted items in a well-ventilated area for one week after painting. This allows for the most complete curing as well as maximum coating hardness. As with any coating product, care should be taken to ensure that accidental ingestion does not occur. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 10

A: We're happy to help! Yes, Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer is a great option for a base coat on galvanized metal surfaces. If you are using a non Rust-Oleum brand paint we recommend first applying a small test application to ensure the products are compatible. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

A: Happy to help, Matt! Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye Water-Based Primer can be used on subflooring prior to applying vinyl flooring down. Save time, go straight for Kilz.

TL;DR, Didn’t work well at all. Read the labels. Got the recommended. Was easy to roll on, but that was about it. I needed to prime a bedroom paneled in a barnwood style of paneling that was several decades old and stained with who-knows-what, but not actual stain. Rolled it on. Before the first wall was half way dry, the stains bled through. Thought, huh, guess I need to do two coats; let this coat dry and lock the stains in, and reroll tomorrow. Nope. Upon reroll the stains bled through again. And again. And again. I applied FIVE COATS before I gave up and got a can of Kilz. One and done. I absolutely do not recommend this if you need Actual Primer.

Cheri, we want to try to help! Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer will trap most stains in the primer film and prevent bleed-through to the final topcoat. While this primer can be used with some types of tannin, an oil-based primer may be better suited. We recommend Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer for most bare wood surfaces.
