Q: Several people have asked if you can use pellets. In the older questions it is said to not use pellets but in the recent questions it says youc can use wood chips or pellets. So which is it?!

However, all other product information refer to the use of the "wood chip tray", as the manufacturer recommends using wood chips, not wood chunks, as wood chips are smaller and easier to fit inside the wood chip tray.

Don’t waste your money!

Don’t Waste Your Money I would not recommend the Pit Boss 3-Series Vertical Smoker. One of the biggest misconceptions is that this is a pellet smoker. It’s not. Despite the Pit Boss name, this unit uses wood chips, not pellets, which was disappointing right from the start. The biggest problem, however, is temperature performance. This smoker struggles to maintain heat and won’t get anywhere near the temperatures it should. Even when it’s 92 degrees outside and sitting in direct sunlight, mine struggles to get above 190 degrees. That severely limits what you can cook and makes smoking take much longer than it should. I’ve followed the instructions, used quality wood chips, and tried multiple cooks with the same disappointing results. If you’re looking for a smoker that can hold temperature consistently and perform reliably, this isn’t it. Save your money and buy something else. This smoker has been nothing but frustration.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Smoker does not hold heat and does not seal

First, the smoker claims to heat up to more than 300° and I was not able to get mine to above 250. On top of that, my smoker door did not seal properly so during the smoking process, most heat was escaping out the sides. I was hopeful this would be a good smoker. Turns out that it is not made very high-quality. I do not recommend.
