The PetSafe Smart Feed 2nd Generation Automatic Pet Feeder was thoughtfully designed for pet parents and their pets to bring peace of mind to mealtime. When you download the free, PetSafe Smart Feed app to your smartphone and connect the feeder to your home's Wi-fi, you'll be able to schedule, adjust and monitor your pet's meals whether you're at home or at the office. The new, low food sensor will send a notification to your phone when the feeder is running low on kibble and when it is empty, so you can pick up more kibble on the way home. The Smart Feed Automatic Pet Feeder holds 24 cups of dry or semi-moist food. The unique design of the Smart Feed's food conveyor dispenses most shapes and sizes of dry and semi-moist food while helping to prevent jams. Meals can be scheduled for up to 12 times daily in sizes from 1/8 cup to 4 cups per meal. The optional Slow Feed setting dispenses meals larger than 1/8 cup in small amounts over 15 minutes for pets who tend to eat too quickly. There is also a Feed Now option that lets you serve a meal instantly from the app or with the push of the pet-proof button on the feeder. The PetSafe Smart Feed Automatic Pet Feeder includes a stainless-steel bowl with a removable holder to prevent your pet from tipping or moving the bowl. The feeder components are top-rack dishwasher safe to make cleaning simple. feeder includes an AC power adaptor and has a backup battery option using 4 D alkaline batteries (not included). To connect your PetSafe Smart Feed Automatic Pet Feeder to your smartphone app, a 2.4GHz (802.11b/g/n) router is required. Devices that work with the mobile app are iPhones or iPods with iOS 9.0 or later and compatible Android smartphones version 6.0 or later. One feeder can be controlled from multiple family members' smartphones. Though it is possible duck food may fit in this feeder, it is crucial to note that this feeder has only been tested with dog and cat food so this is not something we could recommend. Additionally, the feeder should only be placed in a fully indoor, climate controlled location, and would not be suitable for a barn or similar environment. DO NOT LEAVE THIS UNATTENDED **EVER**, YOU CANNOT TRUST THE APP. IT WILL QUIETLY STARVE YOUR PET AND PRETEND EVERYTHING IS OKAY. If I hadn't been home to notice and troubleshoot the problem, I don't even want to imagine what could have happened. Backstory: power in my area is spotty. Post-blackout, this feeder entered a quiet error state where the app reported everything was fine, feeder online/good connection, but the feeder itself MISSED SCHEDULED FEEDINGS ENTIRELY. Even sending a "snack" through the app didn't work. My poor cat went over 24 hours without food because of this bug and how insidious it was. The app lied to me while my cat was starving, so I just think he's being a little dramatic. Nope. I got it working again afterwards by setting it back up from scratch, but there's ZERO shot I can trust this thing ever again. I'm honestly horrified this was even possible.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I purchased this feeder and absolutely loved it for over a year until the white plastic belt has started to crack along the seam. Once it started to crack it would no longer continue to go up the track to dispense the food. I do not see on the website that you can replace the belt. :( Yet you sell a replacement bowl that will never wear out. Please let me know if I can purchase a new belt to bring my feeder back to life and rate you a 5+ star!

I’m sure the product is great as I have not yet used it. The app will not let me get past email verification on any devices. I’d only recommend this product when they fix the app bugs.

It Works... Until It Doesn’t

I wanted to love the PetSafe Smart Feed feeder. For a while, I did love it. It was reliable, looked good, and took the mental math out of mealtimes for my cat. At first, it was basically a plastic butler, serving up kibble on schedule without fail. But alas, this dream didn’t last. After a couple years of standard, uneventful use, it started skipping meals with mysterious error codes. Because, what pet product wouldn’t you want to build suspense when you have a cat that would literally go through you if there was a meal on the other side? But, I digress. I followed all the troubleshooting instructions, cleaned the thing like it was a new car I wanted to show off, and chalked it up to a one-time mysterious occurrence. Boy was I wrong! Soon after, the unit decided it was done entirely. It told me there was a mechanical error and now it does nothing but sit there taunting me. No more feedings. No more blinking lights. Just a sad, silent monument to what once was. And here’s the thing, it’s not like this feeder is running a marathon every day. The motor turns a few seconds, a couple times a day. That’s it. This isn’t a high-performance appliance that takes a beating every day. So, when it gives up the ghost this early, you can’t help but question the build quality. At this price, I'd expect something that would last more than a couple of years, not one that retires early with full benefits.
