Reddish Purple Foliage Creates a Dramatic Display During the Fall Season The Brandywine maple tree is a very attractive maple that has a neat appearance and is an effective choice for a lawn specimen, patio, or shade tree. This autumn beauty is a brilliant medium-sized maple tree that is guaranteed to brighten up any landscape with its lush, red-purple foliage! The Brandywine tree is a male selection so it can be planted without fear of numerous weedy seedlings germinating after its flower in early spring. The ornamental tree also exhibits significant tolerance to leaf hopper, a potential pest of landscape red maples. The United States National Arboretum developed Maple Acer rubrum when crossing October Glory maple with Autumn Flame maple. A full grown Brandywine maple tree is truly a sight to behold. Brandywine Maple Tree does not ship to AK, AZ, CA or HI

Looking for more information on trees or shrubs? Check out our guide on how to grow trees and shrubs in the product documents section.

  • Unlike most maple trees, Brandywines do not produce helicopter seeds. While some enjoy watching these seeds twirl and fall to the ground in the fall, they can also be a hassle to rake up and collect along with the leaves. If youd prefer a seedless maple, then the Brandywine is a great choice.
  • Start by digging a hole that's a few feet wider than the root ball that the tree is shipped in. Next, place the Brandywine maple tree into the hole and spread its root to promote a healthy root system. Finally, cover the roots with a layer of soil and water thoroughly for the first few weeks, when the roots are well established. The best time to plant a maple tree is in early spring or early fall.
  • Brandywine red maple tree growth is fast, with some of the trees growing up to 3 feet each year if theyre growing in the right conditions. A full grown brandywine maple tree can be as large as 25 to 35 feet tall and 15 to 25 feet wide.
  • To prune a Brandywine maple, remove the lowest branches to raise the crown/canopy of the tree. Also be on the lookout for dying branches or branches that are crossing into one another. Cut these branches away to better maintain the health of the tree. The best time to prune a maple tree is in the middle of the summer, when the leaves have returned after the winter. If any branches begin to wither or rot, you can remove the dead branches right away.
  • The Brandywine Maple Tree roots tolerate most soil conditions, with light to moderate moisture, and are quite dependable once established. Water young trees well in the first year of planting to establish a strong root system.
  • The maple trees brilliant red fall color is more intense and consistent from year to year than other species. The red color will appear in late autumn and last until late winter when the leaves fall off. It is a deciduous tree.
  • Acer rubrum Brandywine prefers full sun but can tolerate some light partial shade depending on the planting site. Grows best across the United States in USDA plant hardiness zones 4-8.

The tree arrived very well protected in a super sturdy box. The Brandywine Maple was 6 ft tall with branches full of healthy leaves. The instructions included were easy to follow.

Healthy Arrival

Tree arrived in excellent condition. It was a Florida tree so we are trusting that it was grafted onto a hardy rootstock to survive a central Indiana winter.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Not returnable

It arrived in a reasonable amount of time and seemed packaged well. However, a lot of large black spots on leaves. I had a landscaper look at it and it is likely diseased but possibly treatable and easy to recover. I ordered this item to plant for our unborn son that died but I was worried about the condition of the tree so I ordered another from a different place that we decided to use instead bc I thought we could return this one if the other was in better shape. Currently looking for someone to take it bc our HOA won’t let us plant 2. Hoping it will find a home soon.

No, I do not recommend this product.
