Q: My outdoor shed has been finished with a cost of your cedar natural tone semi transparent Maximum Stain and Sealant. Can I paint over this without the stain bleeding through eventually or do you recommend a primer on top of this before painting?

  • A: I would let the sealer cure for a minimum of 30 days, and then if wanting to paint it, yes, a stain blocking primer such as PPG Seal grip/gripper should be used. Q: So I put this stain inside a wood bunkie at my cottage. The owner of the hardware store said I could use it inside (my bad for not doing my own research). It is not possible to strip it off. What do I do now?? Can I seal it in? Put another stain over top?

  • A: Hello, and thank you for your question! Yes, this product can be applied using a sprayer. For projects like staining a deck or fence, we recommend backbrushing with a high-quality roller to ensure even coverage and the best possible finish. We do not recommend thinning. great one step product that saves work and easy

I liked the convenience of a stain and sealant in one application. This was great on my redwood fence that needed a coating since it was outdoors in the weather. The color is great and the sealing will help my wood fence last the elements for a long time.

Looks beautiful!

I used this product to stain and seal my outdoor steps. It left me with a beautiful semi transparent cedar finish that still shows the wood grain. It went on smooth and seemed to dry quickly. I only needed one coat to cover my stairs, but applied a 2nd coat to the tops of the stairs and railing for extra protection from the rain and snow. I am very pleased with the overall experience and appearance. Some of the great features of this stain and sealant are the fact that I could apply it to damp wood. This was a nice feature since I srubbed my steps prior to staining. I allowed my steps to dry for 3 hours in the sun before staining, but I didn't need to worry about them being completely dry due to this feature. I love that it is rain ready in 8 hours because you never know when the weather man will change the forecast! It is dirt and stuff resistant too! My favorite feature is that it should last 6 years on decks! Im looking forward to not having to re-stain my steps for a few years! This is a great product for anyone looking to stain and seal their deck, fence or siding! I would definitely recommend this Olympic product!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Outstanding fence stain

I love the look of this semi-transparent stain on cedar. It goes on easier than paint and cleans up with soap and water! Using this on fresh, new cedar will give great results. If your cedar is weathered and gray, I highly recommend you powerwash it first. By carefully powerwashing, you can remove the weathered outer layer and the wood will look nearly new again. However, too much power can destroy the wood so careful attention and practice is needed. The results over weathered gray cedar are good but not the great look you get over fresh or powerwashed cedar.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Very nice look

I used this stain on a old deck that had been acid washed and was looking like it needed to be demoed. The stain went on very nice but because the deck had been acid washed it required two coats. The second coat went on great with no issues.
