Our bags are made from multi-layer plastic, designed to provide strength, tear resistance, and moisture protection which are all important qualities for preserving feed quality. While the bags are technically recyclable, local recycling programs vary widely, and not all municipalities accept this type of material. We recommend checking with your local recycling provider to confirm whether they accept multi-layer plastic packaging. No additional calcium (oyster shells) is needed; but it can be offered in a separate feeder, the birds will self regulate this as needed. If the birds are only consuming the pellets, no grit is needed. If the birds are given table scraps or any food other than the pellets, they should have separate grit available to them (this helps with digestion of food that has husks/shells etc that haven't already been ground up). We’ve gotten compliments on how rich the egg yolks are and great flavor of the eggs. Our hens also open range during the day, but they seem to like this feed. Don’t love spending so much on feed, but I tell myself it’s ultimately benefiting us too.

Solid Nutritional Feed.

Great quality feed, our hens lay consistently on it. They are healthy and happy free range hens, getting all the nutrients they need from this feed. They came through their fall molt with flying colors and their new feathers grew in very fast. We feed the entire line of Organic Feed. This isn’t as powdery as some reviewers have mentioned, but with any crumble you will have some powder. The consistency is always the same. We buy about 20 bags a month so if it wasn’t a good feed we would have moved on. Which we have in the past from other feeds. Since our flocks are mixed size the crumble actually works best for us. I do wish they made a non soy option for our customers that want eggs from hens fed soy free.
My one negative is with TSC cancelling our pick up subscriptions last minute leaving us hunting up feed for our hens, and having to get it delivered.

I don't usually give my chickens corn or soy as it changes the nutritional quality of the eggs in a negative way, but during the molt when no eggs are being laid, this organic feed meets the need, and is a little more cost effective.

Organic chicken feed that makes our chickens happy

My biggest complaint about Nature's Best Organic Pelleted Egg Layer Chicken Feed is the amount of powder that results. It's powder that the chickens won't eat so it's a portion of the sack that just goes to waste every time. We've been buying this feed for most of the time we've had chickens and I do not remember there being this much of the powder when we first started buying it.
The amount of powder aside, I'm happy with the feed itself.

Good food but too much powder

I've been buying this brand for years. At first I was using the crumbles, but I noticed way too much of the bottom of the bag became basically a powder. I switched to pellets and that was much better for a while, but now I have the same issue. Not sure if it's how the bags are handled, but there is a ridiculous amount of the food that disintegrates into powder. It's kind of a waste as my chickens won't eat the powdered portion dry. I have to wet it, which is annoying.
All that being said, all of my chickens are super healthy and I have to attribute some of that to this food. I'll deal with the powder issue, because I trust the quality of this brand. If shipping or processing could fix this issue, that would be wonderful though and make this a 5 star product.

I have 12 chickens probably 6 to 7 years old. I switched to this brand about 4 months ago. I seldom got over 4 eggs per week from my group. Since switching to this food, I am getting on average 7 eggs per day. The chickens were eating their eggs, and now they don't. I thought my hens were past their laying prime, but this food has been amazing. I had had few eggs over a couple of years so this is a verybig change
