Disappointed!!!

I bought this “teak oil” and was disappointed!!  Not what I wanted the finish is sticky and is more like a varnish than oil I truly do NOT recommend this product it really does NOT do as promised in the can.  I would need to refinish again my teak rockers!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not the “oil” I expected

Certainly not an oil! Not sure what it is but unsure if my teak shower seat gets put in the garage instead of shower! It’s tacky like a polyurethane. Wished I never had bought it. I’ve always had good luck with Minwax products, I guess I can’t say that anymore.

No, I do not recommend this product.

DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE!

This garbage ruined my teak table! It is extremely misleading to call this product "Teak Oil". It left a glossy, hard, hideous finish that looks like someone slapped a cheap polyurethane on it. The photo doesn't even do justice to how awful the finish is. It looks like it is soaking wet a week later! Now I have to figure out the best way to get this off my very expensive 10 foot teak table without causing even more harm to it. Shame on Minwax for marketing this junk as "Teak Oil'!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not pure teak oil - contains unlisted adjuncts

I've been working on wood for over 30 years and never have I seen such deceitful labeling. This product may contain teak oil, but it contains a whole lot more that is not listed on the label. Where is the warning that it contains other-than-teak oil? Where is the warning that it behaves like sub-standard poly? Thanks to this lack of openness, I now have hours of sanding to remove the horrid finish and will never get back to the natural wood look I previously had. Where's the MSDS?

No, I do not recommend this product.

Beautiful finish

Terrific product… but… follow directions and wipe off the unabsorbed excess. If the product is applied too thick it will wrinkle and get gooey, and then you’ll have to wait a long time for it to harden before sanding it off and starting again. When applied correctly and patiently it is a beautiful finish for teak.

Good coverage

This oil definitely contains a varnish as it's sticky but it does cover well. I probably should have cleaned my table first since it's been a bit weathered by the sun and salt but I did not. Needless to say, the product covered well however I do fee that it changed the color of my table even though the label doesn't indicate that it would do so. I've used other teak oils in the past and while they bring the richness of the wood out, they don't change the color of the wood. Not sure I like that about this product. The smell didn't bother me but my husband noticed it and I was doing this outside.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I bought an old rustic patio set for the fire pit. I decided to spruce it up a bit so I applied Minwax Teak Oil. This is what it looked like after the first coat, I will add another coat for more protection.

easy application

This has been a product that was very easy to apply to four patio chairs. I applied two coats allowing ample drying time between coats. The chairs look great. But the true test will occur in due time to see how the chairs look after it has rained a few times or after the rays of the sun.

Yes, I recommend this product.

protects and enhances our beloved furniture

We have a few very good, mid-century, teak pieces of furniture that we have had for over 50 years and love as much today as we did when we first bought them as newly-weds. Two pieces, a buffet unit and a dining table were designed by the famous Danish designer, Hans Wegner.and a third a dresser. All are teak wood. We have cared for these pieces, lovingly, for all these years. We got this Teak Oil recently and have used it to great satisfaction. It applies very nicely with a soft rag, goes on smoothly and evenly. It does not have a strong odor as some do. It is a light oil and once wiped off, leaves the teak wood with a beautiful, natural, as-new appearance. It is comforting to know, as well, that this teak oil is preserving and nurturing the wood so that it will last for many years to come. Hopefully our kids will enjoy keeping and using this furniture in the future, enjoying it and taking care of it the way that we do.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I used Helmsman® Teak Oil on my old kitchen table. This oil penetrates into the wooden pores and very quickly restores the wood. My table now looks brand new! This teak oil also protects the wood from UV rays if you apply it periodically. I can't wait for summer to apply this oil to my outdoor furniture.

Works great!

Minwax brand teak oil has really brought life back to my wooden furniture at home. It refreshed the color of the wood and helped restore it back to its natural beauty. It was very easy to apply. I used small cotton cloth to spread it on the wood. As suggested I applied 2 to 3 coats to get the perfect look what I was expecting. It has a light odor. Its a nice, clean product. I must say it is a good quality teak oil. Cap works great, for a nice seal. Overall , totally impressed with the result.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Helmsman Minwax Teak Oil is amazing!

Helmsman® Teak Oil is something I have enjoyed using start to finish. We had a discolored spot come up on my huge wooden kitchen table. We had tried a few things but nothing seemed to work before Helmsman’s Teak Oil. I watched it penetrate into the wooden pores and the restoration was not only quick but you could physically see the wood being enhanced with warmth and richness. We wound up doing the whole table and it looks brand new even if it is 20 years old! It is good to know that this teak oil also protects the wood from UV rays if you apply it periodically. I think I will use it next on some outdoor furniture as it works both indoors and out!

Yes, I recommend this product.

The Minwax Helmsma Teak Oil is a good product for restoring wood finishes that have dried out or lost their sheen. It is good for indoor or outdoor wood furniture. It helps to block both moisture and UV rays. It is easily applied with a brush or a rag. 2 coats are recommended for better , longer lasting protection. The furniture is dry to the touch in 6 - 8 hours.

Goes on smooth

Just pick this up last week and my plan was to use it on my deck. Unfortunately, since we have gotten quite a bit of snow I decided to use it on a project in the house. I had sanded down a small end table and used this teak oil to seal it instead of painting it. I stirred the can really well and applied it with a brush. It applied nicely to the end table and dried pretty fast. I still have one coat to put on it but I'm very pleased with the results. I hadn't heard of this oil before but was very impressed with it.

Easy to apply

We got the Minwax Helmsman Teak Oil for our outdoor Acadia wood furniture. It was very easy to apply. This teak oil offers a rich, warm matte finish. It works by replacing the natural oils lost due to weathering and aging. It does leave a sticky residue but I am hoping that will go away soon.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I used this to finish my Christmas band saw deer display. I followed the directions on the product and was very happy with the results. The Oil provided just a little coloring to the wood but still lets the natural wood finish shine through for a nice finish to this piece. The brush that I used was easy to clean up with a little mineral spirits.

Excellent Teak Oil

I love Helmsman Teak Oil by Minwax. I have outdoor patio furniture that suggests you use teak oil to keep it in top shape. This teak oil is easy to apply, and a little goes a long way. I used a rag and applied it in circular motion until the entire table was covered. I let it dry overnight in the garage. It dried smooth and was not tacky. This teak oil really brought out the beauty in the wood and gave it a nice shine. I would definitely recommend this oil to make/keep your wood furniture new and protect it from the elements.

The product is especially helpful for outdoor furniture to protect it from sunlight and rain. The teak oil was easy to apply and use on many types of dense wood including mahogany and teak.
