Do not buy. Not like it used to be.

I bought 3 gallons of this in december. Opened one of the up and poured it in quart cans. Used a quarter of 1 can to put a first coat on some plywood shelves. Everything went as expected. Sanded them after 6 hours to put a second coat on. Opened the can again to get started and noticed the poly is quite a bit thicker than it was earlier. Like spreading molassis on my plywood. would not level out. Left brush marks in my wood. Do not buy this garbage.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for your review of the Fast Drying Polyurethane. The thick skin which developed is natural, as the product is designed to dry by evaporation. If there is airspace in the can or container, it will evaporate into that air as it does when on the surface. There will also be a more solid seeming material which settles in the can-this is flattening agent and is what causes the product to dry with a softer sheen. Once the skin is removed, mix up the rest of the product by stirring.  We recommend a test area, if the product dries to an acceptable finish then you can use the product for the rest of the application. Dries in the can even when sealed!

I purchased a can about a year ago, used some from the can on a couple of projects. Sealed it fully, and kept it in a climate controlled garage. When I opened the can today, there was a thick hard shell on top! I broke through it with a screwdriver, and the entire rest of the can was the consistency of honey mixed with jello. Obviously unusable. I don't understand how the product dried out (cured?) when the can was fully sealed and there was almost no air above the product in the can. If you aren't going to do a huge project and use it all at once, don't buy anything other than a tiny can. Apparently it goes bad very quickly.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Fast Drying Polyurethane. We apologize you had an issue with the product after using it, unfortunately once the product has been opened and air gets in the container, it will thicken up. Ideally we recommend to purchase the amount of product needed for your project to avoid any issues. Nice Finish: Spray can has issues

The finish is nice, but I have a couple of issues with the spray can. The first is that when you spray a horizontal surface you have to hold the can horizontal and that leads to sputtering that messes up the finish. The second problem just happened with my most recent purchase where it started leaking at the base of the spray nozzle. I got varnish all over my hand and the drips fell on my project and created flaws I had to sand out.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great Product

I’ve used Minwax stains for many years and always satisfied. On recent project I used Minwax Dark Walnut stain and Polyurethane Warm Ultra Flat.  The finished project was great!  I read some of the one star reviews. Does not make any sense to me. I would say those situations have variables introduced that created problems for them. Properly used this product works very well. I will always use Minwax.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Just used this is cover my sister older wooden deck at her place, it went on quite easily and dried quickly which was very helpful because their deck is the way they enter and exit their mobile home. Thank you for taking the time to review the Fast Drying Polyurethane. We apologize you had an issue with the overall finish of the urethane. Overworking the product by going back and forth when applying can result in a rough finish. Sanding the surface smooth and then applying a final coat in one direction with the grain of the wood should give a smooth finish. Vey unpredictable quality

I use a lot of Minwax clear polyurethane spray, but the sheen has been extremely unpredictable lately. I use the semi-gloss, but it can range from satin to high gloss and I won't know until I try it. I even bought an automatic shaker to see if I could get better results, but it didn't help. I use it in production where I need to keep a consistent quality, so it has turned into a major problem. I’m in the process of trying other products now, because Minwax sure ain’t what it used to be.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Fast Drying Polyurethane. We apologize you did not get the desired sheen when using for your project. The last sheen you apply is what will be seen, you can lightly sand and apply your desired sheen on top and you won't see what is underneath. Highly recommend—durable and fast drying!

This polyethylene is super helpful. I like a flat finish that is durable and with little odor. This has a bit of a harsh smell but it disappears quickly after it has dried. Drying time is also amazing, allowing me to finish my project fast and enjoy it for years to come without any issues. I have tried other brands but I do not like them as much as minwax as they are not as durable.

Just put on first coat to wainscott boards in my basement. The fumes were so intense that it literally got me high and I had to get out of the house. Thank you for taking the time to review the Fast Drying Polyurethane. We apologize you had an issue with the odor of the product. Since this product is oil based it will have an odor while it is drying, we recommend to have good air flow and ventilation in the room. You can also put baking soda or charcoal briquettes in the area to help absorb the odor. If you have further questions, please contact us directly at 1-800-523-9299 or info@cbgbrandreview.com. Minwax Fast Drying Polyurethane Pros: Semi-gloss finish: This oil-based polyurethane provides a beautiful semi-gloss finish on various wood types. Easy application: You can apply it using a brush, spray, or paint roller. Fast-drying: Ideal for both indoor and outdoor use. Stain removal: It effectively removes stains from unfinished wood surfaces. Longevity and durability: Stands out among competitors. Cons: Solvent smell: Due to low volatility, the solvent smell lingers for a few days. Multiple coats: For the finest finish, it requires at least 3-4 coats 2.

Beautiful wood

I can't believe it. This has brought out the beautiful color of the wood on my stairs. The drying time is not what I was hoping for. It took some time, but polyurethane does take some time. I would suggest to make sure it's well ventilated. Even though it was in a big room the doors and windows should be opened.

Low odor and a great finish

We decided to make a corner table for behind our sectional to fill in the empty corner gap that seems to always collect airborne toys. We finished the wood first with sanding 100 grit and a second pass with 250 grit for a smooth surface. Next step was the polyurethane. We did this indoors since the weather outside is still too cold. This has a very mild scent in my opinion and doing this table in the next room over we didn't even notice it in the living area. We applied coats about 5 hours apart and it was completely dry. It may have been dry earlier than when we checked. We have had the table finished for a couple weeks now and the finish has withstood kids, cups, toys and my cat. It cleans easily and if something is spilled it doesnt soak into our table.

Minwax is Always my First Choice

I have used Minwax products for 30 years, and it’s always been my go-to for Polyurethane. I am really pleased with the Minwax Fast Drying Polyurethane in the Ultra Flat finish. I am super happy with the final product, a table we use every day in our family room. The finish is durable and I really like the flat finish more than I thought I would. I’m hoping the flat finish is as durable as the gloss finishes have been.

Never had so many problems!

I’ve used your products for at least 30 years as it was recommended and bought by my parents. I am a carpenter and have refinished old furniture to building new. This new formulation you came up with to be blunt sucks! I have never had such a problem with streaks pooling and running marks! I had some time between projects so it’s been over 6 months at least since I bought so when buy more poly for the new project I noticed a difference in the label which then I accidentally bought satin which has never been my favorite bit did a custom kitchen office and bar build in espresso with satin finish a few years ago! I realized after the first coat but it’s for my son and he wouldn’t mind. I ended up stripping it back to bare wood because it wouldn’t leave a finish I would ever want to say I built so I went back and got the semi gloss which I had intended and now after a week and a half I’ve yet to have anything that I’d be proud of! Every time I come back to it after drying I just want to sand it off again. It’s not like your poly is inexpensive but it used to be worth it I will now have to try a different brand if this is what you want your product to be!!

Miniwax Fast Drying Polyurethane Ultra Flat

I received the product Miniwax Fast Drying Polyurethane Ultra Flat complementary from Miniwax and Influenster in exchange for my honest opinion. I like how easy it is to use and it also a fast drying product so you don’t have to wait long if your project needs an extra coat. It only takes between four and six hours to dry which I think is nice. I also really like how it helps protect my wood projects against damage that can happen at anytime, like scratches and more. I would definitely recommend tops product to people.
