- A: Hallie - Yes, we recommend no wheel on the gate. This is because the MM Gate Operator will provide enough force to open or close your gate, and the wheel is not needed. The wheel oftentimes can be an impediment to opening and closing your gate because if the wheel hits even a small impediment along the way like a rock or stick it will automatically back up.2 years agoHelpful?

- A: Leah PNW - It depends on the following factors to calculate the duty cycle: 1) how many openings a day, 2) your location on the map, and 3) how much sunlight you normally receive we can then forecast what you may need with our Solar Gate Activity chart. It is on Page 11 of your Installation Manual this will show the Zone areas and tell us the areas of possible sunlight collection. Zone 1 – Most Northern area and least amount of collection available = 8 cycles a day with a 10w panel. Most people are going to use the gate at least 8 cycles a day. Regardless of the Zone, we recommend a deep cycle marine battery. If they are in Zone 1 and much of Zone 2, we recommend a 2nd solar panel at a minimum. If you don’t have a 2nd panel and have a 4-5 days of storm/cloud cover, you will end up depleting the battery. Error on the side of too much collection as opposed to not enough. If you need further help our Tech Support can help you with any issues you may have from installation to troubleshooting. - A: The Mighty Mule kit comes with the operator arm(s), control box, mounting hardware, 1 transmitter and transformer. You will need to add a battery, it requires a 12V automotive / tractor or marine battery recommended 250 cold cranking amps. It comes with a transformer to plug into power, depending on how far you are from an outlet you might need to purchase some 16g low voltage wire to run from the control box to your outlet. If your far away from an outlet you could use a solar panel to charge the battery, you would add the solar panel FM123.3 years agoHelpful?

Excellent! Make sure you have a heavy duty gate! The bracket attaching the opener to your gate will come loose often! If you have a light duty gate you will crush your gate pipe at the attach points! Works perfect tho!

Two brand new units from the box didn’t work!

This product is trash right out of the box! I bought the first one at Tractor Supply and installed it to replace my old Mighty Mule that died after 4 years. I first discovered that Mighty Mule changed the length of the arms and my existing pole wouldn’t work. Then once installed the gates would not open. I spent about 2 1/2 hours on the phone with Mighty Mule tech support. They determined the control board was bad straight out of the box. So I returned it to Tractor Supply for a replacement. I installed the second new unit and one of the arms didn’t extend. All it would do is spin but never extended. I convinced tractor supply to give me the good arm from the one I previously returned so I could repair my gate and get it working again so I wouldn’t have to trek out in the cold to open gates for guests. I would never buy this product again!

Pros: Descent price, nice long wire on secondary gate to run under driveway and into the control box, works with my previous Mighty Mule gate opener remotes and programing new remotes is easy. The steps to set the closed limit is so much easier than my previous Mighty Mule opener.
Cons: The instructions on wiring to plug and battery were weak but just read the terminals. Did not include the wire from plug adapter to control box. Instructions said to run numerous wires through the same grommet into the control box but no way would all the wires fit.

This gate opener seemed a little daunting to install, but it really is simple once you begin. The arms seem rugged and it works very well. I like the different accessories you can add on to customize it for your property. If you do the dual gate, be ready to cut a line across your driveway for the power wire going to the secondary arm.

William - this is not the usual situation. Mondays can be longer waits because as a lot of folks set it up on the weekend so it can be 20 -30 minutes wait. Most average days are a 10-minute wait or less. If you did get a hold of someone, they are always helpful and resolve a very high majority of issues. If you want, I can have someone, call you directly on your time. Call Customer Service not the Tech Line and give them your best way to be contacted then ask them to give it to the Tractor Supply Account Manager. I'll set it up and see if we can fix this for you.

Not great for the money. Given the cost the product is not easy to install doesn’t allow you to control the close limit but only open. Which is a pain. Also hardware is taped to the bottom on the packing materials which was frustrating because we looked for it and almost returned to the store.

Addendum - Talked with Tech folks about your review, see response:
"When the arm retracts it makes contact with a micro switch. It will need to go to that point every time it retracts. There is no programmable way to change this. It’s a fixed position. This is why the retracted limits is controlled by the brackets. The extended limits of the arm is programmed internally to the control board and is a count of how many pulses the control board receives from the revolution counter. The manual shows how to install it properly, as well as the BILT app. My recommendation to the customer would be to download the free BILT app. It really is the best tool we have to offer for installation assistance."
The hardware is taped to the bottom of the package, but it should be red tape telling the customer where the hardware is, your box must have been missing this, apologies for that.

On your other issue I’m just not sure about this had not heard it before and not sure why the need to adjust the “retracted” limit? Any adjustment you need can be achieved in the bracketry. very great system, only thing I don't like about it is when i press the button to open the gates, it will open fully then immediately close without delay. you have to wait for it to open to the point you want it at and then press the button again to stop it. it is supposed to have a delay to close, but I can't seem to get that function to work, possibly a user error but other than that they are amazing.

The gate system is great. Very easy to install and very easy to hook up all attachments. Mighty Mule customer service is great with helping pin point and fix issues. Only issue I had was with tractor supply. When I bought my products when I opened the boxes parts were missing and parts were broken. Tractor supply did return with no issue and replaced with what they had in stock. In stock options were very limited. I wish their instock products were better stocked

Finally, a gate opener!

My son has officially retired as gate opener, or so he says. We are so happy with this. We have two 14’ tube gates that we used with this all with a solar option and it works great. All keypads (entry and exit) we have are wireless and everything works great together. We used the antenna extension it came with and put it as high as we could get it and my remotes work from about 1000’ away. We love it. Great buy!

You can not make minor adjustments with the screw adjustments on the arm! Why even have them adjustable?

Bad … do not buy

No good, wind moves them easily and won’t open or close in high winds and I have to recalibrate.
Buy sliding motor instead . These are too much maintenance

This is not the usual experience and do not hear of this issue very often. Did you contact the Tech Line to troubleshoot? You might just need to recalibrate; something could have moved in the bracketry. The open and close limits shouldn’t change due to wind issues. We also have the stall force you can adjust to push harder against the wind.
Either bracketry could be loose and moving and/or you have a solid surface gate which we do not recommend, what kind of Gate do you have? If you need help, please call the Tech Line (with TechSee feature so the Tech can see what you're seeing), they can be reached at 1-800-543-1236 M-F 8am-7pm and Sat 10am-6pm EST.

Works but... you need to get creative.

All the parts, like the app for instance, don't work or connect. The battery also didn't have the right parts or connectors despite being the mighty mule battery. I had to go buy car parts to finish.

Smart Mighty Mule gate opener! Is not smart!

Mighty Mule opener without all the smart stuff was very reliable, lasted 4 years and unaffected by the electromagnetic pulse (EMP) generated by thunder storms! The newer models are very unreliable, the circuit board and the sensors in the opening arms will not last through a moderate storm. The control arms have no bearings or support causing sensor to malfunction!

Works great! Just wish the directions came with it rather then downing it due to being where WiFi wasn't available or service. Otherwise awesome

This gate has a lot of issues. It has to constantly be adjusted. Also, for such an expensive piece, you should be able to get parts for repairs
