- A: Majic Tractor Truck & Implement Enamels are tough & durable industrial alkyd coatings that deliver excellent adhesion, corrosion resistance and resistance to impact and abrasion. That said, active rust should be removed by sanding, grinding, wire-brushed or blasted to clean steel – all exposed, or bare steel surfaces should be primed with Majic Tractor, Truck & Implement Rust-Inhibiting Primer (in either Red Oxide, or Sandable Gray). For best results, tightly adhering rust (that cannot be removed by the above means), should be neutralized, or “converted” with an acid based converter, or appropriate metal pre-treatment solution - before priming. When applying Majic Tractor & Implement Coatings, please read & follow all package directions carefully – with special attention to the recommended applied thickness of coatings (3.0-3.5 mils wet for primers, and 2.6-3.0 mils wet for finish enamels), and to the allowable re-coat time of alkyd products (24 hours minimum) – as to heavy an application, and/or re-coating too soon will result in a film that won’t dry “hard” for several days…or longer.5 years agoHelpful?
Q: I heard TSC is discontinuing the Majic Cub Cadet Yellow, is this true? I certainly hope not as it's good paint and I use it all the time on my Cubs.

- A: It will but you need to prep the fiberglass first and always wear a dust mask and eye protection when dealing with fiberglass. First wash the area clean using a soapy solution of a product like Dawn and warm water the allow to dry. Then scuff it with medium grit sand paper, wipe down it with tack cloth to remove all dust, clean it with a chemical like acetone, prime it with primer made for wood/fiberglass then paint. More than one can- match up your lot numbers

If you are restoring a cub cadet or otherwise painting something large you should make sure you check the lot number associated with each spray tan because there are large differences in some lots.

Perfect Match For My Cub Cadet XT1 Lawn Tractor!

I've been looking everywhere for a paint color that matched my Cub Cadet XT1 Lawn Tractor with no luck at all. Not even the largest big box stores had a color that even came close. But Tractor Supply came through with an exact match! And unlike many spray paints on the market, this brand is an alkyd enamel formulation which is very durable and extremely resistant to weathering and corrosion (which is exactly what you need for outdoor lawn and garden equipment). The color matches perfectly, sprays on easily and produces excellent results. I'm very satisfied with this paint and will definitely purchase more when I need it!

I have been using Majic Cub Cadet yellow in spray can and qts. for years and have had really good luck with it. It matches my Cubs better than most other brands and is holding up really well to the vigor's of use. I hope they don't discontinue it.

I don't understand it, we (wife) have purchased over 4 cases of this paint and we haven't had any problems it takes several hours to dry but looks real good, real good price. I tried to upload a few pictures but it isn't working. Maybe some people should go back to finger painting.

To the morons complaining about this, learn how to paint!! Great texture and smooth applications and ENAMEL DRIES FASTER THAN OIL BASED use a heat gun if you have one it helps tremendously! Great prices on all their paints and other items too! Highly recommend tractor supply!

The spray tip on these cans are garbage. They use to be really good. Then they changed them. Now they spray with lines on one side that’s heavier than the other. MFG just can’t leave well enough alone.

Better off with children’s finger paint

Do you like spending hours sanding away tacky three day old paint? Do you have an arsenal of curse words at your disposable and the creativity to invent new ones? Then this paint is for you!
My fiancé restores cub cadets for show and with the latest one just two weeks away we picked up this junk at tractor supply to touch up our mower deck on our 1969. What a joke.
After three days the paint was still tacky and blistered. We had to spend HOURS sandblasting, hand sanding and using the air compressor and a sanding wheel to get rid of the monstrosity this garbage paint left behind. I was able to scrap away the top layer with an inspection scraper.
Do not... for the love of all that is sweet and holy purchase this “paint”. You’d have less agony using lemon juice as eye drops.

"When applied in accordance to package directions, Majic T&I Finishes are hard-drying, tough & durable, oil/alkyd enamels that provide excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance. If this applied product has not dried beyond “tacky” in 3 days, it is almost exclusively the result of (a) too heavy an application, (b) re-coating too soon, (c) atmospheric conditions at the time of application, and during the critical dry/cure time, (d) or any combination of (a), (b), and/or (c).
Oil/alkyd products have a unique curing mechanism that differentiates them from other product types…Oil/alkyd products “dry” by solvent evaporation, but “cure” (harden) by oxidation… and equally unique to oil/alkyd coatings are that they “cure” from the outside in – meaning that the outermost portion of an applied oil/alkyd film will form a “skin” (due to the reaction of ambient oxygen molecules) even before all solvents have evaporated. IF the product is applied too heavily, and/or IF a second coat has been applied too soon, this film becomes thicker and the evaporative solvents are unable to escape (film won’t dry)… oxygen cannot permeate the film until all solvents ultimately evaporate (film won’t harden)… The issue of slow-to-dry (or cure) paint may also be similarly affected by application during temperature extremes (too hot, or too cold), humidity levels too high, and/or painting in direct sunlight (any, or all, of which would result in film “blistering”).
Finally, oil/alkyd products have dramatically changed over the years due to environmental concerns, and the moving target of VOC regulations and compliancy. With each new formulation change (to remain compliant), there may be required adjustments, to the application, for the product to perform as designed, and intended. This is why we so emphasize those critical factors of application – with special attention to the recommended applied thickness, allowable re-coat times, atmospheric limitations, and the use of appropriate reducing solvents - so that the coating will perform to the customer’s expectations."

Review of Majic and Valspar Cub Cadet Colors

Here's the problem. Valspar Cub spray is a lacquer. Lacquers will wrinkle an enamel underneath this new lacquer over spray. Not good!
Valspar is a fairly good match but it's a lacquer and VERY thin.
I bought a rare stocked and dented can of Majic 8-2944 SLOW drying enamel at Tractor Supply in Latrobe, PA. You have to look for it. It is not a good color match from Majic. It is very pure yellow or bright yellow. Cub used three different yellows over the years. I needed a newer yellow. This color is not on the MTD color pallet as a yellow they used with Cubs. The color on the Majic label is a very good match but not what's in the can.
The complimentary color to cub yellow is purple. Purple can be made by mixing Rustoleum Royal Blue and Regal Red in about equal proportions. Mix them separately in a small cup. Shoot for a purple color to start. For a quart, you will need about 15 mls of this final mix below OR LESS, or maybe more. I didn't measure it out.
Add a few cc of blue and red and mix in a plastic cup. Add in 10 cc of Majic Cub yellow 8-2944. Stir all this in a separate container. Look at the color. If the former yellow color has a green color or tint, add more blue. If it is a brownish color, you are close to what you need to create a neutral darker density yellow color. Got the opposite reverse of brown or green? Add more red. Get a brownish color to darken the Cub yellow. If it's too purple, you didn't add enough yellow to see how the color will tint the remaining can of yellow with this tinting base of enamel you made.
I got a lighter yellow that was darker than the starting can and an almost perfect color match. IF YOU GO OVERBOARD, you will have a can of really dark off CUB yellow paint. STOP short on adding the purple and yellow brownish mixture. Let a test panel dry because paint dries darker. I stopped on the lighter yellow side but with a close match. You can always risk adding more "purple" mix later.
Majic take 24 to 48 hours to dry. It's oil based. So this can be a slow process.
I am happy with my perfect John Deere Yellow match without any adjustments to the tinting and my new Majic and Rustoleum Custom enamel paint that I tinted the NEW CUB CADET YELLOW.

Cub Cadet yellow touch-up paint

Purchased this rattle can paint for touch-ups after spray painting my tractor with Cub Cadet "yellow 99" paint in the quart cans. It is a perfect match!
You have to spray 3 or 4 light coats to build the proper (yellow/orange) color for a good match...I sprayed some plastic parts as well as metal...the bond and gloss were excellent!
I was very happy with this product because it matched the Cub paint so well. I wish the Majic paint in the quarts was the same quality...however the color is not right, nor the consistency (more like house paint than tractor paint).
I wish Tractor supply would offer the Valspar paint again...that was good stuff!! When you go through all the work of restoring a tractor, the last thing you want to do is to skimp on the quality of the paint!!

Magic spray paint has great color, gloss, durability and forgiving application, but
it takes a good 24 to 32 hours to dry. On a working farm, we have to get the equipment
repaired, painted and back in the field. Rustoleum and Duplicolor are a better choice
for our applications.
