The styrofoam is there for a reason – it helps to insulate the unit and keep noise to a minimum, serves as thermal insulation, and helps prevent mold growth in the unit. - A: Hey, Chris! That's a great question! If the AC unit and the window are not properly insulated, cold air can enter your house, which will decrease the efficiency of your heating system. Additionally, if you leave the AC unit unused for a long time during winter and expose it to harsh weather conditions, the coils may freeze, resulting in costly maintenance expenses. The truth is, removing your window AC unit and closing the window is not too challenging if you have some help and a place to store the unit during winter. ~Rita2 years ago

This AC unit is great! I love that it has a remote. It keeps our garage cool while we're working on a project. It's not too loud. Installation was easy. It has efficiency settings.

So far I have loved this LG Smart window air conditioner! We set it up in our dining room so we could finally enjoy some cool air while we eat in a hot summer day (I love having coffee for breakfast!). It’s cool the room within an hour and stays cool, also the remote comes in handy so you don’t have to constantly get up to change the speed, temp or setting. It is big so you definitely want two people to set it up on the window so you won’t end up hurting yourself. I purchased a plexiglass and cut it to size to place it on top of the ac because our window slides left to right instead of up and down. It’s nice that unlike the portable acs that we have in the other rooms, this window ac doesn’t take up much space so I didn’t have to move my dining table too much!
About 260 Sq. Ft. Open area including a section of our kitchen

I have always liked LG Electronics, and I have to say this air conditioning unit is very good. Installing it was easy, so anyone can do it. Once I started using it, I was happy to find it is very quiet and does not bother my home. It cools the room really well and works easily. The remote control is also very helpful because I can change the settings from anywhere in the room without getting up.

Standard design AC. Noise level was typical for a window unit. Install was standard. Not sure energy efficiency just yet. Overall it performs as expected so no stars were deducted.
