Leupold Open Range Cross-Slot Rings, 30mm Tube, Low, Picatinny/Weaver, Matte Black

Used on ruger american 6. 5 ranch with 3hd scope. Nice rings work as they should.

The rings work fine, just like they should. Bought them to mount to a custom 260 with a 4-20X VX5-HD. Sighted in for a 200 yd zero (based on 1. 5" high at 100 yards). First shot at 1000 yards, dialed up based on Hornady ballistic calculator, was spot on

I combined the Leupold low, 30mm Cross-slot Open Range rings with a Leupold 4. 5-14 30mm scope with a 40mm objective lens. This scope & Scope-Ring Combination was mounted to a Ruger American Ranch (5. 56) equipped with the Ruger Factory installed base. That scope base sits pretty high, and there’s plenty of clearance with this configuration. In fact, I suspect that a scope with a larger objective lens would also fit, but this is a short, lite weight rifle after all. I had previously removed and reinstalled the Ruger’s factory installed base, after cleaning & degreasing the receiver and mounting hardware. I did use thread locker on the scope base. I also degreased the Leupold Scope Rings, but I did NOT use thread locker on the rings. I often find it necessary to adjust a scope’s forward/rearward position, as well as leveling the reticle. For these reasons, I’m reluctant to use thread locker on rings. The Torque Specifications (inch pounds) are listed on the packaging instructions. I always dry fit or chase the screws into the rings prior to installation. Everything went together perfectly. I did not lap or other fit the scope to the rings, nor did I use any type of adhesive inside the rings. I do wonder why Leupold and others optics manufacturers continue to provide the small wrenches, while also providing torque specifications. Proper installation requires a torque wrench, so wouldn’t it make more sense to provide a driver bit? Like most people, I have an assortment of these little wrenches, and I do keep a couple in my portable “range kit” along with driver bits. I have used the rifle several times since installing these rings, and there have been no issues. I did not bore site the rifle prior to going to the range. Sighting-in or zeroing started at 25 yards, and point impact & point of aim was relatively close, so zeroing was relatively straightforward. Backing up a little bit here, I selected and ordered these rings at the same time I ordered the scope directly from Leupold. I knew these were aluminum rings (6061-T6) and that’s exactly what I wanted considering the caliber of rifle, weight considerations, price point etc. The takeaway here is that these rings appear to be well made, and ideal for my intended application.
