The K&H Pet Products Thermo-Poultry Brooder is the safest, easiest, and most economical way to provide added warmth for newly hatched chicks or ducklings. Its unique pegged shelf provides an adjustable height system that allows it to be used even as chicks begin their growth spurt. At only 25 watts for the small and 40 watts for the large, the poultry brooder will be a staple product for years to come. The chicken warmer features an indicator light when in use, and is energy efficient to save you money. - A: Hi thank you for reaching out. PLEASE READ- Keep them warm It's important to consider the question: how warm do baby chicks need to be? Since your chicks are in a brooder (a chick-safe box where they will live until they get older) and not under the supervision of a mother hen, it's your job to provide them with the correct temperature. When chicks hatch, their bodies are covered in soft down, but they lack true feathers, and feathers are necessary for a chicken to regulate its body heat. For the first week, you want to aim for a temperature of about 95 degrees in your brooder. As your chicks grow, you can reduce this temperature in five-degree increments once a week for the first month.1 You can assist the chicks in achieving the ideal temperature by providing them with an appropriate heat source, such as a heat lamp with a thermostat or timer or a Thermo-Poultry Brooder. In their first weeks, baby chickens should be heated from above. After the chicks are one month old, graduate them from the Thermo-Poultry Brooder to the Thermo-Peep Heated Pad. Remember, heat source safety is paramount! And be sure to monitor how the chicks behave. Are they clustered together in a group? Are they huddled around the heat source? Are they spread out around the brooder and panting? Are they happily milling around? If chicks are too cold, they will huddle together for warmth. Chicks that are too hot will try to escape to the walls of the brooder. Also, avoid drafts! So, yes this can be used in a good quality plastic tote.3 years agoHelpful?

Piece of Junk. DO NOT BUY! It killed my chicks

This brooder plate stopped working on the 3rd day of my second batch of chicks. Worked fine for the first and then on the second it just stopped getting warm. The light still turns on when plugged in but it has no heat. I lost multiple chicks due to this overnight. Do not buy this. It is not reliable and you will have it kill your chicks. Buy from any other brand. I have 2 other brands and they are still working perfectly fine

Piece of junk that stops heating after 2 months

Absolutely terrible, I bought this brooder plate and used it for 1 batch of chickens and it worked fine. I went to use it for the next batch and my baby chicks were screaming up a storm despite having the plate. I felt underneath and the plate had stopped heating during the middle of the night on the 2nd day after hatching. The plate was only 2-months old. The light still turns on when plugged in, but the plate doesn't heat whatsoever. Absolutely piece of junk. If you don't want your chicks to die, don't buy it

The chicks had already died at an alarming rate. Lost two one night next night lost another 3. My chicks were decimated by not a cat this time but by the cold. Next time, I tell myself, as I plan to get more chicks that will survive the winter. It's not like we are anywhere extremely cold and am baffled how they all went so fast. I'm in the desert. It's winter, but it's not Midwestern winter, and I didn't think I needed this chick warmer, so i hadn't bought it. Now that I have it, I am determined to bring chicks into this world without massive death. So here I stand a broken woman without chicks ready to face the cold once more as I choose which ones to get because I am a thriver, not just a survivor, and chicks will thrive beneath my tutelage..

This is a perfect device that I wish I would’ve made long ago when I thought about it. The chicks absolutely love it and they hang out on this all day long and as soon as they leave it, they wanna go right back under or over it and I can’t thank you guys enough for letting me try out this product for free in exchange for my honest opinion. it has helped out my little barn in animal so much and we think you guys a lot for this product. I will be buying lots more from them.

I am so excited to use this!
We normally keep our rooster and hens away from eachother during winter so that he isnt able to fertilze hens eggs.
Our Rhode Island Red hens provide us with eggs less frequently during our Colorado winters.
We are planning to use this in our new chick house we will build. We normally keep all the hens and chick's together so they can keep warm huddled together.

It is easy to use just plug it in and set the height setting to where you need it to be and that’s it. I love this little thing, don’t have any hatchlings yet but ready for some to come.

I wasn’t too impressed with this item. After 20-30 minutes it barely was putting out any heat. I wasn’t expecting it to get too warm because let’s face it we don’t want to cook these chicks. I was expecting it to get a little warmer. The chicks would be warmer just cuddling up to one another or with hay. I’d give this two thumbs down. However it’s a cute idea it needs a little more umphhh to it!

We are a couple months away from having chicks, but I’m so pumped to use this brooder heater. The adjustable height levels are genius and the heat seems to be just enough for young chicks.
Bonus, being able to pop off the legs makes storage when not in use perfect.

I  received this product from Influenster in change for my honest review. 
Looks just like the photos! Very easy to assemble, simple 3 steps. Love I can customize how tall I want it. Only downfall is it take awhile to warm up but other then that very nice.

Safe heat for our baby chicks

I was so happy to receive this from Influenster because we raise chickens. I have been wanting to get one because it is so much safer than the red light heater. It was so easy to put together and within 5-10 mins I felt like it was as warm as it was going to be. I love that it can grow with chicks and they can jump all over it without getting burned. The heat feels nice and it will be a breeze to clean with babies are all grown. I can’t wait until spring to test with new baby chicks.

I don't have chickens but this is a great thing for me to have on hand for when I rescue a baby rabbit or mouse that is ill and needs warmth. This is great for that. I seems very safe and doesn't get over hot. I was worried about the potential of burning because I've never used a brooding mechanism such as this. But this doesn't even come close to burning you. I am thankful to have this one hand for any emergencies that may come up! Thank you for letting me try it 😊

We love this little brooder heater!! Instead of using dangerous heat lamps we prefer something like this. The little chicks went right underneath like they would a momma hen. The lower level tilts up so small chicks can be towards the back and bigger ones where it’s higher.

Bought this for our chicks who had gotten their feathers in, moved them to their coop with the heat plate, heat plate did NOT produce heat couldn’t even keep water from freezing that was in a shallow dish set on top. My chicks got frost bite due to this poor product. Would NOT recommend. Returned for refund but my chicks were a loss. Would rate as 0 if I could

Great for drying polish hens

My current batch of chickens is too big for a brooder right now, but this comes in handy when my polish hens get too wet and cold from dipping their feathers in the waterer. I can set this up in the dog kennel and not worry about burning the house down. I also like that the flat plastic surfaces are easy to clean!
