The Hornady 12 in. Gun Safe Dehumidifier Rod helps prevent rust and corrosion. This dehumidifier rod can be used horizontally or vertically. Its optimal mounting location is horizontally near the floor of the safe or closet. This humidifier has 7 watts of coverage and is approximately 100 cubic feet. The Hornady dehumidifier's plug may be removed to help install the cord through narrow holes or openings..Lifetime

No Hole for wire.

Will not work with Canon safe. The safe does not have an wire entrance hole. If you drill a hole in safe you destroy it's fire rating.

Not as good as I thought

I put this in a Winchester 8 gun safe in the bottom. I put three different temp and humidity sensors in also and left it for two weeks. Temp did not change. Humidity went down by about 3.
Does not meet my criteria. The GR in my other safe does much better.

Easy to install (love that you can easily disassemble the plug) and pretty much plug-and-forget. Works fantastic. Only downfall is there is no "light" or indicator showing its on, you basically just have to touch it and see if its warm.

Seems to work fine. The humidity inside stays around 55%. I do keep the safe inside so that helps. When I first measured it before putting the dehumidifier in it was around 62%. So I do believe it’s helped stabilize it. I use it for a big safe..but it’s a smaller big safe.

For my 30 gun safe, this seems to be about the right size. Maybe could stand to be a tad larger. Maintains about 40% humidity and two or three degrees over room temp. According to the N.R.A. Firearms Museum, 40 to 50% humidity is desirable. Too dry could cause slight wood shrinkage over time. Only uses 8 watts of power.
