I purchased the 13" planner about a 1-1/2 ago, I set it up to do a small project recently and I have the same problem many others have had. Can't run a 13"board through only 5 to 6 inches wide. I've been reading many reviews with this issue and the replies from Grizzly astounds me telling many of you that the machine is only good for small projects and not stand behind their products. Well, I'm quite certain I purchased a 13" planner as well as you guys to plane up to 13" material. I want a REFUND!!! Not sure why, I had to rank 2 stars to send??

Ive never spent so much to be so disappointed. I shouldn't have to change the factory settings on a good tool just to make it work properly. I've spent hours adjusting the infeed and out feed ramps to make the planar not snipe the wood . Ive given up and am living with the fact that this planar is not up to par . I run a wood shop and am not impressed

I just set up my new 940 replacing my 2 blade 12.5" 28 year old Craftsman, and I am super super happy my wife let me spend this money during the sale. This plane is a beast, I thought it was only pulling the wood through until I saw the clean cuts on the other side of the planer. It is very quiet (compared to my old one), I didn't feel the need for the ear protection and even forgot it but will use the PPE next time no matter what.

I bought this a year ago and not used it much and the motor either blew up or bearing went out or something. But it’s not made for a lotta use and it wasn’t used more than 15 times and it’s already overwith so I’m looking for another brand planer now

Bought this several years ago, my biggest complaint is the motor overheats, shuts down the termal switch and then you wait to start it, anything 6 inches wide is a stuggle even at a .03125 cut. Smaller widths no problem, but don't think it would handle a 12 inch board without the thermal tripping several times during the planning

Machine is used friendly, simple set up and easy access for maintenance and carbide blade replacement. Thickness adjustments seem to be easy and accurate. Mr bone with this mach is the helical cutter head. I used a DeWalt 735 with a 3- spiral head, the Grizzly model only has a 2-spiral head., a world of difference in the finish cut. The DeWalt out performed the Grizzly for this reason and one other. The exhaust on the DeWalt had a blower assembly that evacuated the chips into a can without having a vacuum or dust collector

Great planer, reviewed several and decided on this one. I liked the cutting heads and granite deck. I’ve used it quite a bit and so far had no issues. It is very heavy, so I recommend a perm. Or mobile base for it.

DO NOT BUY: It only planes board up to 6 inches wide. Complete product misrepresentation. The front of the cutter head housin g does not let any board over 6 inches wide to be planed. Google search it and you will see.

sniping occurs regularly even with the wings level. The table and wings should be a one piece unit that slides in and snaps into place and/or is removable to adjust tilt. we inserted a 4' long straight piece of 3/4" finished/coated length of particle board shelving with an attached edge guide strip on the input side. Then we adjusted the measurement guides to zero with the shelving level and now have a nice 4' long flat table for level and even plane with the unit. Love the helical cutter head and blades!! It's also quieter than a lot of other planers.

It works great. Very little if any rough areas when planing over knots. Much smoother and quieter than traditional knives.

The helical head cuts smoothly and is quiet. The unit is made with very cheap plastic. Within the first few hours of use the power switch broke. The rollers on the top of the unit just sit in the cradle with no pins to hold in place. If you slide a board to fast, they fall right out. The planer infeed is the greatest disappointment. It struggles to pull the boards in, regardless of the amount you try to take of in one pass.

Awesome tool better than expected. Would recommend to others to buy.

Excellent tool! easy to set up and produces an excellent finish. It is very quiet and could be used with out hearing protection. the dust chute needs at least one additional screw to secure it in place.

The price for a Helical Cutterhead planer was the first plus. second, i have owned a Grizzly table saw for 20 years. Had a Delta benchtop for a long time, but never liked the straight planer blades. Took your planer out of the box and went to work on 2000 sq. feet of 1x6 doug fir salvaged from a 1970's house with 1x6 roof sheathing. your planer never stumbled.

Very impressed with this planner! I was expecting to have to do some calibration and adjustments with it because the price was so good compared with other planners but I didn’t have to adjust anything. All I had to do was wipe away the protective oil layer and the thing worked great.

Easy to setup, Minor bed adjustments. Planes evenly with a smooth surface almost no sanding needed.

This is my first planer and wow it's amazing. I have used straight blade unit before and was never real impressed. Easy set up, instructions great, and the build quality for the price...can't be beat. If your looking for a planer and reading this...you've found your planer.

Even on sale, not as impressive as we were hoping for the price. I guess we didn't read the fine print enough but it can only take off 1/8 inch at a time for a six inch board in the center of the machine. Our sawmill produces pretty rough boards, to the point that it's difficult to get them to feed at all since there's a metal sheet that physically prevents you feeding more than 1/16 of an inch through the machine except for the 1/8" high, six inch cutout in the very center of the tray. The two rows of helical heads aren't quite enough to do a completely smooth job and on the soft spruce we've run through it so far, you can see the location of the knives on the board. I've since purchased a helical head for our old rigid machine at around half the cost of this machine. We honestly didn't realize how much better built our rigid planar is until we got this one. It's got 4 screw rods which perfectly align the cutter head compared to the grizzly's two, and the helical head I purchased for it has 4 rows of knives compared to two on the Grizzly. It is very quiet compared to a non helical planer, and has decent build quality though some of the plastic panels weren't secured in place well on arrival. If you happen to have a better built flat knife planar that can accept a helical aftermarket head however, it's probably worth going that route.

My first planer. Learning on a large red oak board that will be a mantel over our fireplace. I have been pleased so far. I am just a beginner, so for see it meeting my needs at this point in my woodworking journey.
