- DESIGN - Our feeders are waterproof! Side guards to prevent chickens from eating from the side. An anti-flick grill prevents chickens from flicking food out of the feeder, attracting rats and mice. The minimum weight required to open the feeder has been tested and proven to ensure your chickens can access the feed while pests can't.
- OPERATION - A lid which opens when activated by a chicken's weight allows your hens to feed on demand while preventing wild birds, rats, mice, and other pests from accessing the feed. The top removable waterproof lid allows for easy filling of feed.
- ASSEMBLY AND TRAINING YOUR CHICKENS - It's super easy to assemble by attaching the treadle with 4 bolts. To train your chickens to use the feeder, we include two training bolts to limit movement. There are two settings, with one week for each setting.
- FEED - The large storage area holds 18kg/40lb of poultry feed. It will feed twelve chickens for ten days, allowing you to free up your weekends. The Feeders are suitable for all dry feeds.

Did some research and although it was pricey, the ability to keep wild birds and rodents out of the food seemed worth the up front cost. We decided to purchase "the original" treadle chicken feeder. And Tractor supply's pricing was 20% less than the largest online retailer's price!

My Banties Love Grandpa’s Feeders

This is my third Grandpa’s Feeder. All three are used with banties. The smaller one works without modifications, but the step on the larger ones has to have additional heighth and weight added so that the step will depress when the banty steps on it. The feeders work very well, and my chickens have had no trouble learning how to use them.😊🐣

I've been using this for over 10 years

I added another Grandpa Feeder to provide an extra feeding station for my flock. These feeders are well made and are durable. Some of my Grandpa Feeders are over 10 years old. The only advice I would give if you use these feeders, there is less waste if you use pellet (or crumble) form feed as the chickens will pick out their favorite grains out. I just provide an open enamel pan (roasting or baking) to serve them with mixed grain type feed and supplements, especially in the winter months.
I have tried just about every type of feeders out there and the Grandpa Feeder is my favorite and the easiest to use. No need to fill everyday, just monitor.

grandpas feeder chickens failing tutorial

it is a well built feeder, but my chickens are not getting the hang of using this feeder. We've gone through the process of lowering the lid, but once it's closed, they can't seem to be able to step on it to open it. They step, it opens and they freak out and back away closing the lid once again.

Ducks and feeder

Boy ducks are wary. It’s been two weeks and I’ve taken the “training wheels” off the feeder as of yesterday. They were stepping on the treadle when the could see the food but are very cautious with it closed and them having to do the work. The squirrels are aghast and are still trying to figure out a way to get in. I can already tell this is going to save a lot of feed and money. I have a camera set up to monitor. I DID have to humanely relocate the fat groundhog that was using his incredible bulk to easily pilfer the food and since then the birds and mice cannot get in. Hoping as the days go on the 13 ducks get brave or hungry enough to figure it out. I’m glad I bought it

Grandpa’s Automatic Chicken Feeder

The feeder works great so far! I was able to fill it up to feed 5 chickens for a week while we were away. The included metal grate does keep the feed from flying out when the chickens are eating. It’s sturdy and can keep out other critters, though my chickens aren’t yet heavy enough to open the cover by stepping on the pedal, so they are getting an extended training time with it always open. I would recommend this feeder as a great option for a non-electronic automatic feeder!
