The Gardner-Gibson Fence-Post Black-Beauty Asphalt Fence Paint is a black asphalt paint designed to help seal wood fences. This product provides a weatherproof finish which, with proper maintenance, will extend the service life of the fence. Fence-Post paint can be used on wood and metal surfaces, is easy to apply and is great for above and below grade applications. Finished product dries black in color. Covers approximately 75-80 sq. ft. per gallon on wood surfaces and 100 sq. ft. per gallon on metal surfaces. This fence paint is for exterior use only.

Used it for 20 years

I've read the negative reviews, I have been using this for 20 years and never had a problem. use it on treated wood fencing. the fence is 20 years old and still there. I roll it on with a roller, it is very thick, which I like. I (alone) can coat 300 feet of 4 rail wood fencing in about 1 1/2 hours. I roll it as opposed to any type sprayer, my preference, as too much over spray just waste the product. The fence in the pictures is 600 feet of 4 rail treated board, both sides would be 1200 feet, takes me about 4 days as I work in the morning when its cool. 5 gallons, for me, will heavily coat 300 feet of 4 rail fencing, 6" boards. As far as peeling, never had that problem, ever... with the sun baking it, it will fade in time, anything eventually will fade. Not to mislead....it is very messy, not going to lie, the rubber gloves, rollers and roller pans etc. are finished after this, so I just through them away. For me, this is a good product.

Goes on very thick, but this is a plus in my opinion. Doesn’t take much longer than a thinner paint. I did one 200’ segment two years ago and while it does mellow and age, it didn’t peel or flake and still looks very nice. Other reviewers may have had pressure treated wood that was still wet and weeping or just too green, id. Doing a second 200’ segment this year. I’ll stick with this as I’ve had less positive outcomes with other brands of similar paint.

Don't be fooled

This product seems like it is high quality when applying because it is good and thick, but don't let that fool you. I spent multiple days applying two coats to a 1200 ft four board fence, and the product is gone with the wood already showing through after only 6 months. Don't waste your hard earned time and money

Goes on thick and seemed like it'll last, but less than a year later the wood is showing through. Very disappointing. Followed directions, applied 2 coats. Looks great fresh, but unless you want to redo it every year find something else. Honestly I believe a generic exterior house paint would outlast this. Don't bother with manufacturer 1 year warranty either. Couldn't even get them to return an email.

I used this on my utility was gonna use truck bed coating but basically this is the same stuff it worked great,truck bed coating was 99 dollars a gallon this was 49.99 for 4.7 gallons ,,,my trailer deck turned out awsome

I am glad we decided to go with this for our fence as it is thick due to the asphalt and I feel it will really protect our wooden fence. We used two coats to ensure proper coverage. After it dried and everything wasn't together it looks absolutely great. Just be sure to wear things you really don't care about cause this stuff does not come off.

Goes on smooth and thick. I actually like the consistency when applying, really helps you load brush. We painted IDK 120 round seasoned 7-8" fence post... They all peeled and faded in less then a year. We also painted seasoned 6x6 post and the paint lasted maybe 3 years. The paint was nvr absorbed into wood like a stain. just stays on top like a crapy paint.

Covers fairly well even when thinned with water ( 2:1 or 3:1, paint to water ratio). I too found the paint too think for brush on without experiencing muscle fatigue. Too new to know how long it will last on my project but will update with pictures as time passes.

It’s terrible. It’s like trying to paint with mud. It’s thick and takes a lot of paint to cover one board or fence post. Sometimes you have to put two coats on it. It’ll take you forever to paint your fence if you use this. If this is the only paint you can get you’ll probably never get it done. You will end up giving up and have your place 1/2 painted. 10/10 DONT RECCOMEND.

THIS PRODUCT IS NOT CREOSOTE. It does not penetrate or act as a wood preservative. It is a water based black paint and that will fade and need to reapplied every few years to maintain that rich black appearance.

This paint covers well. It did have chunks in it but it didn’t transfer to the brush or effect coverage. It has a nice satin sheen. We will see how long it lasts but I’m thinking it will be good for years. Dries pretty quickly as well. We did posts, not sure how it would look on wood rails.

Goes on very thick. It's a little hard to spread on fence posts, but seems to be covering in one coat. It's like a thick sludge when it is first opened. 5 gallons won't go very far if you are doing a lot of posts, but it's good for the price.
