Q: Does the thermostat turn the heat on based on the outside air temp or the water temp in the waterer?

Q: can this be used in a dry covered area outside
7 months ago1 Answer
- A: The Farm Innovators 3-gallon Heated Poultry Waterer Fountain is rated for outdoor use in a dry, covered area. Constructed from durable plastic, the thermostatically controlled unit prevents water from freezing in temperatures as low as 0°F. For safe operation, place the waterer on a stable, level surface or hang it, protect the unit and cord from moisture and animal damage, and always plug it into a GFCI-protected outlet.7 months agoHelpful?
Q: Is water tray heated?

Q: Is this safe to set on 2x4s?
7 months ago1 Answer
- A: Yes, it is generally safe to sit your Farm Innovators 3 gal. Heated Poultry Waterer Fountain on 2x4s. The product is designed to be versatile, allowing it to be hung or placed on a flat, sturdy surface, such as the ground or wood. Elevating the waterer on 2x4s is actually a great tip to help keep the water cleaner by preventing bedding or dirt from being kicked into the basin. The main safety consideration is ensuring the unit's electrical cord is routed safely away from curious beaks and that it is plugged into a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet for protection against electrical shocks. Also, avoid letting the base sit in puddles of standing water7 months agoHelpful?
Q: Will this work with ducks?

8 months ago1 Answer

Does EXACTLY what it is supposed to do
Daily use of product for almost 2 years. Durable, never a problem. As every reviewer prior has said, (even 1 stars???) keeps water from freezing. Has kept water in liquid state in coop when outdoor temps have hit -12 F. I find this very easy to clean and fill. (I am curious as to what technique is being employed by 1 star reviewers that results in their purported spillage.) I disassemble and clean, then reassemble, invert and fill. I carry the fount to the coop inverted, open the coop, flip the fount upright, hang it from a chain to get it off the bedding layer, and plug it in. I work a lot of 24-hour shifts and I like knowing that my chickens have the water they need, despite the cold. The low average rating this product has received might discourage some purchasers but I have found this fount to do exactly what it is supposed to do and do it well.

A nightmare waterer, multiple design flaws
5 years ago
Cons of this waterer:
1. If you set it down on a pedestal, chickens will roost on the flat top, and crap in the water. Seriously? "Innovator"? This is a very elemental design flaw.
2. If you suspend it from the handle, any little bump from the chickens causes water to spill out. The floor of your coop is flooded, and you have to refill the waterer constantly
3. Refilling is a nightmare. You have to access it, remove it from the coop, invert it (spilling the water remaining in the base), and remove the red base to refill it. Once you have the white part full of water, you have to re-attach the red base while everything is still inverted. It's impossible to see the point of connection so you have to work by feel, making it extremely difficult to line up the two sections and get them to lock together properly. It can feel locked together, but when you go to turn it right side up, it pops apart and the entire contents of water pours out.
4. The white part is translucent and lets enough light in to support algae growth. You have to scrub algae out frequently
Cons: it does maintain unfrozen water available to the chickens even in below-zero weather.
Summary: I a looking for better designed waterers.
