Good feeder

The hay basket is a good product. Less waste than the upright feeder I have. The horses are able to eat in their natural position. Much lighter than my other feeder. Makes moving it around much easier. More and larger holes needed to be drilled in the plastic tub to keep hay from clogging the holes and holding water when it rains.

It does keep hay up and dry but my horses lasted a week with it before they started tearing the hay out and putting it on ground. It was an empty basket surrounded by piles of hay. The final straw was when my mare went to kick my gelding, and her rear leg landed in the basket. I couldn’t have moved it because it was frozen solid to the ground. Luckily she snatched her leg out of there but not before pinching it in the plastic basket. A little blood and a sore leg but could’ve been a lot worse. It’s now out of the pasture and getting sold.

Great basket. Just now leaving a review after owning it for 3 years. The ring is starting to rust on the bottom from the horses shuffling it around and scratching the paint off but nothing a wire brush and some Rustoleum paint won't fix. No bends in the tubing. No cracks in the basket. I have one horse that seems to think al the best hay is always on the bottom so she started shoveling the hay out w/ her head. I resolved that issue by putting the hay in a large net. A little more work but now my waste is practically down to zero. Mine probably "travels" more than your avg feeder basket too because I move it outdoors during pretty weather and turn it on its side during bad weather and roll it under their run-in to keep them and the hay warm and dry.
