Q: How much per day per chick?

1 Answer
  • A: Between 1 and 2 ounces (28 to 56 grams) of DuMOR 20% Chick Starter/Grower Feed per day. However, because chicks grow incredibly fast, their daily intake increases every single week. Instead of measuring out a precise daily amount, you should feed them "free-choice" (ad libitum). This means keeping their feeders filled at all times so they can eat whenever they need to

Q: do i have to give grit

1 Answer
  • A: It does not contain grit, but the grains in the feed were ground before manufacture. Grit is only necessary if your birds are not free range and are fed any kind of hard-coated seed or grain. Birds that free range will naturally eat tiny stones, and confined birds that are eating a commercial pellet or crumble do not need grit because the ingredients in the feed were all in the ground form prior to being made into a crumble or pellet. However, if you feed Scratch Grains to confined chickens, you will need to provide grit.

Q: When to give starter feed ?

1 Answer
  • A: You do not stipulate what you are feeding. Feed as sole ration to starter/grower layer chickens from hatch to 18 weeks of age. Feed as sole ration to meat chickens from hatch to market weight. Feed as sole ration to ducks and geese from hatch through 8 weeks of age. Feed as sole ration to quail, pheasant, and chukar from 6 weeks of age through 11 weeks. Feed as sole ration to turkeys from 8 weeks of age through 16 weeks of age.

Q: How many pounds needed for 6 chicks for 4 months after birth?

1 Answer
  • A: For six chickens to reach 12 weeks of age, you'll need approximately 72 pounds of chick starter feed, assuming they eat about 1 pound per chick per week. Up to 8-10 weeks, chicks typically eat starter feed, then transition to grower feed. Since 12 weeks is beyond the starter feed stage, you'll need to switch to grower feed at 8-10 weeks, and they will continue eating grower feed until they reach laying age (around 16-20 weeks)
