Q: Do these cubes neex to be soaked? Can i use as treats

1 Answer
  • A: You can give DuMOR Premium Alfalfa Timothy Cubes as a treat without soaking, as many horses will readily consume them dry and the cubes break down naturally during chewing. However, you should soak the cubes for horses with dental issues, old age, or a tendency to eat too quickly to prevent choking and make them easier to digest. Soaking also provides a hydration benefit and can be helpful for introducing new feed or supplements.

Q: Cab I feed this to my rabbits and guinea pigs?

1 Answer
  • A: OK to use this as a forage supplement for rabbits. Unlikely they will eat too much of this, so having a base pelleted diet available is important.

Inconsistent quality

Sometimes these are wonderful. They smell like fresh alfalfa. Other times they smell like they are 2 years old. Not spoiled, just no smell, brown and horses don't like them.

Disappointed

I've been feeding these cubes for a while. I have noticed that the consistency from bag to bag can vary in color, hardness (lack of soaking ability), and at times pieces of debris like tiny pieces of bailing twine or actual trash embedded into the cubes. Generally I can notice this and pull those individual cubes out so it's not that big of a deal although disheartening that the quality control is seemingly lacking. This last bag though pushed me over the edge. I emptied the bag into a bin and the amount of dust that poured over the cubes by the time it emptied was disgusting. I had to get a vacuum and vacuum out all of the dust as best I could. The cubes themselves looked OK until I started noticing a bunch of the cubes were embedded with corn! I'm not sure what's going on in that processing plant but they need to do a better job. I'll be paying a bit of extra money now for the standlee cubes as I've never had any issues with those.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Best Quality

I feed old horses, one a 40 year old I prefer the Dumor brand to Standlee because I have to soak cubes and the Dumor a better product less stemmy. The Dumor brand a better value at a 50 lb bag as opposed to the 40lb bag of Standlee also. I am disappointed that my local store in Glenwood Springs , CO has not been carrying as usual and I have to raincheck product to receive. Just recently I was told that I couldn't raincheck ... my horses depend on this feed.

Yes, I recommend this product.
