Q: Can I use alfalfa pellets for lawn fertilizer

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, you can use alfalfa pellets like the DuMOR Alfalfa Hay Pelleted Horse Feed as a natural, organic lawn fertilizer. Because alfalfa contains natural nitrogen, potassium, and triacontanol (a fatty alcohol that stimulates plant growth), it acts as a great, slow-release fertilizer that also improves soil health

Q: Are these pellets coated? How long should they soak?

1 Answer
  • A: No, DuMOR Alfalfa Pellets are not coated; they are made of 100% compressed, sun-cured alfalfa hay with no added binders, bentonite, or chemical coatings.Because they are packed tightly and can be quite dense, they should soak for at least 30 minutes in cold water or 15 to 20 minutes in warm/hot water to fully break down into a soft, safe mash.

Alfalfa Pellets as Fertilizer

I have a Victory Garden in DC and use these pellets as a natural fertilizer. I soak the pellets overnight in a 5 pound bucket and pour it over my raised beds. Alfalfa Pellets (do your research) is an incredibly cost-effective, natural way to fertilize your plants and improve the soil.

Choked my mare even after soaking..

I will never purchase this brand again... I can never trust what size the pellets will be or if they will even soften when soaked... I soaked them for 30 mins and upon giving my mare her grain she choked which in her 21 years she has never choked.. this resulted in a emergency vet call and me almost having a heart attack! the pellets were the size of a 5 year olds pinky... Way too large! Vet even recommended I switch brands.... I now buy standlee... much more reliable..
