Q: Can this be added to cat food?

1 Answer
  • A: Howdy neighbor! Red Lake Earth Diatomaceous Earth is completely safe to add to your cat's diet, as it is a high-quality, food-grade blend that is non-toxic to household pets. To feed it safely, you should only mix up to 1 teaspoon per day for an adult cat and always stir the powder thoroughly into wet canned food so they don't accidentally inhale the dry dust.

Q: What purpose does the added calcium bentonite serve that can not be achieved from using just DE by itself? The added CB does not effect the efficacy of the DE by acting as a sort of "cutter", making it weaker, does it?

1 Answer
  • A: The added calcium bentonite (a natural clay) in Red Lake Earth acts like a chemical magnet and sponge, whereas standard Diatomaceous Earth (DE) works mostly like a physical scraper.

Q: does this product kill roaches

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. Per the vendor, "Red Lake Earth Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth is registered for use as an anti-caking agent and flow aid to be added to animal feed in an amount not exceeding 2% of the total diet. Red Lake Earth is not registered as an insecticide. However, food grade diatomaceous earth, in general, does kill crawling insects. Our Last Crawl products are registered for use against crawling insects in the home and garden, and contain the same food grade DE found in Red Lake Earth. However, because they are registered insecticides, the DE in Last Crawl is specially labeled for this purpose. When using DE insecticides, such as Last Crawl, please see label for use instructions."

Q: Will it deter mice and rats

1 Answer
  • A: The Red Lake Earth Diatomaceous Earth with Calcium Bentonite can be used as a deterrent for mice and rats, but it is not a primary method of extermination. For pest control purposes, it acts as a supplement to other methods, helping to discourage rodents from lingering in areas where the powder has been applied.

Helping my featherless hens.

We had never heard of this stuff before an acquaintance of my wife suggested it. Two of our hens never recovered their feathers after last year’s hard molt. Yup, over a year. No signs of illness or parasites, and they otherwise seemed as healthy and happy as the rest of the flock. So this lady suggested putting some of this unpronounceable earth in their food. Well, it has only been a week or so, but feathers are definitely growing back. I guess we will be keeping some of this stuff on hand from now on.
