Experience the difference of pure food grade Diatomaceous Earth Powder for Humans and Pets. Safe for human and pet use, our DE is free from all additives, certified organic, professionally packaged, and is the only official diatomaceous earth health supplement on the market. Where does DE come from? Diatomaceous earth is made up of tiny fossilized diatoms (plankton) that have accumulated over millennia in fresh water lakes. These pure deposits are mined and ground into a fine powder that is naturally high in silica and other minerals. It is this chalky white powder that we call diatomaceous earth. Use diatomaceous earth powder for fleas to help keep pet pests under control. This natural, absorbent stain, odor and flea powder is easy to apply.

For additional information on this product, please see the Product Documents section for all downloadable user manuals, installation guides, brochures and warranty statements.

Q&As

1 - 10 of 212 Questions

Q: I have a 10 x 10 chicken coop with pine shavings as bedding. How much should I use directly on the bedding to control flies and mites?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi John, For chicken coops, you should sprinkle the powder directly into the bedding and nesting boxes. While specific amounts for bedding are not detailed, a light dusting of approximately 1 lb per 500 sq. ft. is recommended for larger areas like yards to manage pests.

Q: How much to use where? Yard, chicken feed? Coop? Inside home?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Jody! This diatomaceous earth powder is a multi-use product. You can use it for fleas to help keep pet pests under control. It can be applied directly to your pets coat to limit odors and works well in the bottom of your trash can to keep unwanted smells at bay. It can be mixed in with any dry food storage including grains, flour, legumes, rice, and corn. Being high in silica, it also supports the growth of healthy hair, skin, nails and joints when used as a health supplement. For yards, apply a light dusting of about 1 lb per 500 sq. ft. using a spreader. In chicken feed, you can mix in approximately 1 cup per 50 lbs of feed. For coops, sprinkle it in bedding, nesting boxes, and dust baths. Inside the home, apply it along room edges and baseboards.

Q: If this is safe for people and pets and can be used in your home why do you keep advising people to wear an m95 mask and eye protection while putting it out? I’m confused because that makes it sound like it isn’t safe.

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Heather! While this product is food grade and safe for consumption, it is a very fine, chalky powder that can be dusty. We recommend wearing a mask and eye protection during application to avoid inhaling the dust or causing irritation, as it can be harmful if inhaled.

Q: Does it only kill fleas?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Neighbor! No, this product is effective against a wide range of pests beyond fleas. It targets various insects including ants, ticks, cockroaches, bed bugs, spiders, and scorpions. It works by damaging the exoskeletons of insects, causing them to dehydrate.

Q: Does this work on house flies?

Q: How do you put this product out

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Neighbor! To dispense or apply Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth, first put on an N95 mask and safety glasses to avoid inhaling the fine dust. Use a powder duster or an empty squeeze bottle to apply a very light film where pests travel, keeping it strictly dry as moisture ruins its efficacy.

Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade

I purchased this as a "Food Grade" Diatomaceous Earth. I assure anyone reading this that I have not tasted nor eaten any of this product (although some do to supposedly rid the human body of parasites and other wee beasties that go bump in the night?). I use this only for spreading on my vegetable garden. I 'puff' it onto the leaves. I have been using red Diatomaceous Earth for a numbe of years, since it is much cheaper. Both work by desicating insects by removing wax from their exoskeltons and allowing bodily fluids to evaporate. Further, the DE gets into insect joints and creates more chaos. Is this more humane than insecticid? Perhaps not, but it is perfectly safe for humans (since we are so much larger and don't have exoskeletons (our skin keeps us moist on the inside). This white food grade seems much finer that the red (I didn't look with my microscope). Ergo: I think it is more tenacious regarding the leaves and insects. I have definitly seen a reduction in squash bugs, aphids, potato beetles, and other riffraff. Anyway: I ordered this on-line and did a store pick-up. I was not asked for ID and merely pointed to my item. I left the store and put in the rear of my car. Voila! One thing I must add...wear goggles and a mask when spreading. Perhaps, gloves if you have trepidation. And until you clean up...everything you touch will have a fine white powder left on it. My shed door once was red and now is white. Of course, it will come off...but not without rinsing.

This is a good product but I'm giving it one star until they change the answer to one of the questions about the product. The person asked if it could be harmful to cats if it is inhaled. It can be harmful if inhaled but whoever's answering the questions answered only that it is safe for pets. . I will update to 5 stars when they change that answer.

I had to wait over 20 minutes (had to call the store twice) for someone to bring my item out to my car for curbside pickup. Also, another customer had blocked some handicapped parking spots. When I advised the employee that finally did come out with my item, she acted like she didn’t care.

Amazingly effective non chemical pest control

This is an extremely large bag of food grade diatomaceous earth. 20 pounds is a lot. We bought it to use for pest control around the house. We had a problem with ants in our kitchen, and we could have picked up a little bottle of it elsewhere for less money, but we opted for this bag because the price per pound was a fraction of what it cost elsewhere. I'm planting a garden this year, and I figured I could use whatever was left over for pest control in the garden. Well, I wound up using maybe 6 oz. or so on the ants and the ant problem is solved. I just sprinkled some around the edges of the counters and the drawers where we had been seeing them and then just waited. They slowed down at first, and then over the course of a few days they were gone. Poof! No more ants, and we still have 19 and a half pounds of diatomaceous earth left. So if you have any doubt about the effectiveness of this stuff for pest control, don't. I pity any insects who think they're going to make a meal of my garden this year.

It is a great product for 1. keeping a large amount of herb mixes from compacting into cement before it can be packaged and given as gifts 2. killing parasites in one's pets, horses...etc. sprinkling over stuff that can draw flies to prevent larva from hatching....i.e. compost

Very safe product that works well.

Price was RIGHT, so purchased 2 twenty pound bags. Spread one around house, deck and yard. 2-3 feet from house edge out into yard and driveway. I had those extremely small black ants all over my bathrooms and kitchen. The next day… GONE! It’s been over month, the white dust is almost all rained away. Starting to see a few ants again. Time for another dump and re-order. Unlike other products I’ve used, I feel so good about this one not being toxic. My general contractor who referred me to this type of product, showed me how safe by eating about a teaspoon full in front of me. He said it acts like a cleansing of the body.
