3rd generation is the charm!

I picked this up this week because I have everything else DeWalt. First off, it came with a nice 5.0Ah XR battery (like my little chainsaw) and on the "low" setting that battery did an entire back yard that was sadly overgrown.
It was easy to put together and assemble. When I wrapped some vine around it and lost the string, it was pretty easy to figure out how to get it apart and pull the string back out. Note: the hex wrench that came with it is the exact right size to fit into the notch to hold the head (lock the spindle down, basically) while you unscrew it. Bonus: the string holder is comparatively easy to get off (compared to previous/older trimmers I've had).

I just bought this today...

...and it's a really nice trimmer. It seems well built and uses heavy-enough materials. Assembly is a breeze. Six screws and you are done. Trimming line is preloaded on the spool too. My battery had only 1/3 charge so I used a battery from my impact driver and put the trimmer to work. Does fine. Good cut, two speeds if you need extra 'oomph' for thicker vegitation. The only thing I noticed is that it is a bit heavier than my FS45. I'll get used to that and the trade off of no 2-stroke fuel mix and noise is worth it.

I have had this trimmer less than a year. I use it maybe a moderate amount. I have had to replace the head because it broke. It was never used in a unreasonable manner. Research proved that this is a problem with Dewalt trimmer heads. Now the battery will only charge to one bar. I have only used the original charger. I did buy additional batteries from Dewalt, they were trash. I did my research and thought Dewalt was a good brand. Never again. I'm going to upgrade to a 60v and probably go with greenworks. I will never buy another Dewalt.
