Was concerned about poor reviews relating to quality of wire. The end that holds the animal is 1/2" which is helpful. Tip I read on another review: put concrete blocks on either side so the trap will remain in one place which prevents critter from damaging or moving it.

Trap got bent by escaping racoon

I purchased this trap on Friday and set it with bait that evening. I checked it three times a day, including once at midnight last night. Then, at 8am this morning (Monday), I saw that it was tripped and the bait was still inside. I inspected the trap and saw that the rods that attach to the spring and door were bent. The top of the cage was also bent. This means the racoon forced its way out through the corner where the door meets the cage, thus bending the metal that is too weak for the job. The trap is not strong enough to contain this racoon (despite the fact the trap is rated for racoons). I do not recommend this trap because the Tractor Supply team leader was very reluctant to give me my money back after only having the trap for three days. She did give me my money back so I didn't have to argue. But, her hesitation indicates to me that Tractor Supply is not willing to fully stand behind this product. I am going to buy another brand from a vendor that will stand behind their product. (Note: this is the first time I ever took something back to Tractor Supply for a refund - I buy from the at least every two weeks.)

Not secure once animal is caught

For $120.00 this trap should contain an armadillo but it did not. He went in the trap and was held for about three hours per my game camera but he was successful in bending the door enough to escape. I give it two stars only because it caught him.

These definitely need a hinged door on the top behind the trigger plate so you can easily set the bait instead of trying to reach back to place it through the front. Also a stray cat ate the bait placed at the back of the trap and did NOT trigger the trap door.,

The trap is made of very thin wire and with a trap this size, the animal in it might be fairly large and could easily cause a problem by bending the wire frame. There is also no opening on the opposite side of the trap door making it harder to bait.

I should have “listened” to the reviews about this not being strong or durable enough for adult raccoons. I did catch 4 little ones but the 5th one bent the bars that hold the trap door closed and was able to escape. The poop left behind confirmed it was a coon.

I have bought two of these to trap cats for a TNVR. They are bigger than what I usually use, but some cats will not go into the normal smaller size traps I take them in. After they get caught in a bigger trap, I transfer them into the normal size one. The first one I bought worked fine for this purpose, but with the second one, the cat has the step on the trigger plate on the side with the trigger rod. I have even manually pushed down on the other side, as if I was a heavier animal, and the door does not trip. I can probably tweak it to maybe make it work, but I shouldn't have to spend the time right out of the box. Hit or miss.

this trap is marginal at the best. rarely will it trip. I have been trying to catch Racoons and either they are too smart or the trap does not work as advertised. The racoons will enter the trap, eat the bait and exit with no problems. Several times the videos i get show the racoon entering, picking up the cat food bait and turning around to exit! I have tried for 2 weeks but never catch any of the racoons..

Trap did catch the groundhog but .... At 6:00am, bait still there, no groundhog yet.
At 7:30am, no bait, trap door is closed and locked, groundhog escaped.
Trap door is bent and ripped out from top hinges. Locking bar mechanism is ripped from hinges at bottom of trap

Raccoons can escape from this trap

This trap was purchased to catch a big raccoon that has been terrorizing my cats and chickens. Upon catching the raccoon one night, it was able to pry its way out of the door, bending the mechanism significantly. The door is apparently too flimsy for raccoons.

Armadillos breakout of traps

Too large for Armadillo. Walks in and feels flooring and can turn around and exit. The latch release plate is too far back. The next smaller size is very effective except the metal braces that hold the door are not strong enough on your most recent make. I’ve had two of two Armadillos bend them enough to release the gate and exit. The one I bought 5 years ago continues to be strong enough but the release plate is so bent up from approx 30 Armadillos that it’s hard to get it to function.
