- A: Try swapping the hose connections at the valve. If the valve is not operating as expected, this could be the cause. The way this valve should work is this: push the handle during extension to split the log. Once the log is split, pull the handle back into the retract detent, once the cylinder fully retracts the pressure builds up to the point the release detent "Pops" the handle back to the centered position, and the cylinder is ready to split the next log.
