Q: Will this shred gumball pods?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, yes, the chipper shredder should be able to process gumball pod, but with some limitations. The Shredders are designed for leaves, yard debris, and small organic materials, which includes seed pods and small debris. if your main goal is processing large amounts of gumball pods specifically, the heavier 338cc model handle the workload better and clog less often then the smaller one. We do recommend mixing the gumball pods with leaves and twigs to reduce the risk of clogging. Q: what is the HP rating of the engine?

2 Answers
  • A: Hello, we appreciate your inquiry regarding the engine horsepower rating for the 224 cc chipper-shredder. Champion engines are typically classified and advertised by engine displacement (cc) and torque output rather than horsepower. This provides a more accurate representation of real-world performance under load. The 224 cc engine used on our chipper-shredder models is designed to deliver reliable power and consistent operation for residential chipping and shredding applications. For detailed performance specifications such as torque ratings, operating speed, and maintenance guidelines, we recommend referring to the unit’s operator’s manual or the product specification page on our official website. If you have any additional questions, please contact our support team at 877-338-0999, support@cpeauto.com, or use our live chat option located on our website. -Thank you

Q: Do you need to sharpen blades? How?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, yes, the chipping blades will need to be sharpened or replaced periodically. You will notice that the blades need to be sharpened or replaced when the tree limbs require extra force to feed into the chipper chute. The chipper knives may be sharpened at a 30-degree angle until the distance between the edge of the blade bevel and the mounting holes is less than 1/16 in. Q: Can this be used to shred green multiflora rose branches that are less than 1/2 inch in diameter? I don’t have space to stack this junk to wait for it to dry out. What problems will I have…just possible clogging or actual machine damage?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. The safety instructions from the user manual states, "Only shred bushes, shrubbery, leaves, etc. with branches 1/2 in. (1.3 cm) or less in diameter. Only shred dry or slightly damp material. Never attempt to shred material that is wet, as this may cause clogging to occur." A link to the manual is included below so you can review any other requirements before purchasing. https://media.tractorsupply.com/is/content/TractorSupplyCompany/tsc/product/1/59/80/50/1598050_Man1.pdf?

Works great for smaller projects.

Takes a little bit to figure it out, but then I did a huge pile of limbs and brush. Great for leaves, ground them down quickly and finely. Larger Limbs need to be somewhat straight to feed.

Champion quality was not there!

Chipper/shredder had four factory defects that I had to repair before and during the initial use. Axle was cross, threaded, and required re-tapping, adjustable shoot knobs also required rethreading as I could not tighten them all the way, clean out cover had one bolt that was either crossed, threaded or over, tightened and broke during removal, requiring me to drill the bolt out reap, and then insert a bolt from the inside and tack weld that bolt, which is how it should’ve been done in the beginning. The wheels were extremely sloppy and moving at 200 feet from storage to area of use literally caused them to start to warp. Had to modify them with metal shims to keep from wobbling. Approximately five hours to make repairs and make this tool usable.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hello, We do sincerely apologize for the condition in which your Chipper arrived and the extensive effort required to make it usable. The number and severity of the issues you encountered are unacceptable, and understandably frustrating. You should not have had to re-tap threads, drill out damaged bolts, or modify structural components just to complete initial setup. We appreciate the the opportunity to review your case further and work towards an appropriate resolution. Our support team is available to assist you through the next steps and ensure that your concerns are properly addressed. If you have not already done so, please contact our support team with the model number, serial number, proof of purchase, and any photos that your have taken. Major upgrade from electric chipper

This chipper is a major upgrade compared to the electric one I've been using. It chips very quickly, and the quality of the chips it produces is very impressive. It fills my needs perfectly, as it is portable and has the capacity to easily keep up with my ability to feed it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Broken chipper/shredder

This is my second unit. The first stopped working due to a broken sparkplug wire after about 100 hours of use. About 30-50 hours later is suffered a hard stop (jammed on a piece of wood). It wouldn't start again. The Woodruff key was intact. The head gasket was blown. After the head gasket was replaced it ran for a few minutes until the crankshaft broke. Not a good experience but it's the right size for my requirements and the altitude we live at. Took a chance and bought a second one.

No, I do not recommend this product.
