The Hoover's Hatchery Live Buff Orpington Baby Chicks are the most popular and most common of all the Orpington varieties with their fluffy golden buff plumage and sweet dispositions. One of the best breeds for newcomers to chickens and families with young children is named for the English town where it was developed. Orpingtons come in several feather colors but all are big, quiet birds with fluffy feathers that keep them toasty warm during frigid weather. Known to be one of the gentlest of breeds, Orpingtons are easy to manage, very friendly, cold hardy birds that tend to be broody, are great setters and make excellent mothers. Whether putting together your first backyard coop or you're already a seasoned chicken caretaker, these Buff Orpington chicks are a great choice.

Poor Baby Chicks

3 of the 10 baby chicks died. 1 chick arrived long gone and the other 2 didn't make it much longer. They were clearly malnourished, dehydrated and so stressed by the time we received them. If TS is going to send baby chicks in the mail, they should figure out a way to overnight the chicks to reduce fatalities. It was heartbreaking to see.

Well two of them died within the first 3 days. The others are thriving/ I was so sad. But I’m grateful for the ones who survived. I don’t believe it was post office issues. The two that passed looked sick.

The first night, we lost the first chick (who wasn’t acting well upon delivery). The second night, we lost another, and the third night, a third. The other seven are strong, healthy and thriving. They are growing quickly and doing well. It would be nice to have a refund or replacements for those lost, but I’m very happy with those that remain.

Post office called and said they didn’t hear chirping so they peaked and all were dead in the corner. There was no heat pack or anything in the box. Called customer service at Hoover. They state they decided whether a heat pack is necessary. It was February and I live in Ohio. They asked if I wanted more sent. No thanks I’ll just take the refund.

I recently ordered 10 Buff Orpington day-old chicks from Hoover Hatchery through Tractor Supply, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience! They arrived right on schedule, healthy and active after the journey—no issues there at all. We got them settled into the brooder, and sadly, one didn’t make it through the first night, but that’s unfortunately a common risk with day-olds, and it didn’t detract from the overall quality. The remaining nine are thriving beautifully—growing fast, feisty, and loving their new coop setup. Hoover Hatchery clearly knows their stuff with strong, well-bred birds. I’ll absolutely be ordering more in the future—five stars all the way!
