Q: Will algae grow in this because it’s plastic? The one I have now has a reservoir for the water that has to be filled but algae grows.

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. Yes, algae can grow in this waterer. Plastic surfaces, especially with standing water and exposure to sunlight, create conditions that promote algae growth. This is common for plastic reservoirs and not a defect. To reduce algae, clean the waterer regularly, refill water frequently and keep it out of direct sunlight.

Q: I see where you hook this to a garden hose. My question does it need "real" pressure to work. What I'd like to do is gravity feed this bowl from collected rainwater. There will be the gravity pressure, just not normal "high" pressure. Will this work?

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, the Auto-Wata Pet Waterer would need pressure from a hose to work.

Worst possible design - do not waste your $

If I were to sit down and try to come up with a way to make the most obnoxious automatic waterer, this is what I would design. The spinning attachment port parts are plastic and directly connected to the floatation which is behind a lid that is attached with screws. If your hose isn't tight and you try to fix it fro. The outside, you're ultimately UNSCREWING the inside or twisting the float into a position that keeps it from working. It's the worst design possible. 0/10.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great customer service

I bought this about 3 years ago to sit in our deck for our 2 dogs in the summer. It worked well until this year when it began leaking from the hose connection. I thought it was the washer, which is an odd size, but I was able to find and replace. Still leaked. Further examination showed that the male threaded plastic piece coming off the float had multiple cracks. I called the manufacturer listed here on the Q&A section to see if it was repairable, thinking that if it was, even the shipping would make it cost prohibative. I spoke with Debbie who could not have been nicer. She said the single threaded piece wasn't available, but she would send me the float assembly free of charge. Very pleased with their customer service.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Dang good water bike

Works great. If it leaks you might have to add another seal from the water hose. I love it and my dogs have figured out if they put their paws it in and knock out all the water they get fresh cold water. Awesome product and zero complaints

Yes, I recommend this product.

For the price I do like this water holder. Yes, we had to make sure it was working properly before we mounted it on the wood platform we made. It's true that you basically have to work with it and turn the hose or the whole bowl to get it on snug, so we know this and unhook the hose to turn it tight. All in all we have had to clean and redo our set up a few times through the years... but it works, going on year 5.

Yes, I recommend this product.
